Midfield options

by IMAMATEOFJOVSKY » 24 Apr 2009 18:13

Karacan and Tabb have the centre midfield shirts - good performances from both in the recent games...play offs now approaching ...will Coppell turf one out to accommodate Harper, should he be fit for them ???

Im hoping not - this midfield is as good a pairing as we have had this season - if Coppell decides to play Harper then hes taking a huge gamble..and one that I think will be a death nail in the coffin

It wouldn't suprise me if he brought Harper back in.
But Karacan and Tabb have both showed they are just as capable as anyone else here. So they deserve to play at Norwich. If they keep playing like they have been then they deserve to stay.

To be honest with you. It is a weak centre midfield partnership. Jay Tabb is a winger by trade, really.

Funnily enough,.search far enough back through my posts to when we signed Tabb and I spoke to a Coventry fan who said Tabb is awful on the wing due to his speed etc... he rated him as a central midfielder.

well to be honest if it is weak- then it shows how poor our preferred midlfield is - at least with the current guys we are looking a bit more up for it

However, he has good skill and passing ability. A good shot and a hard worker.

Ideal for a midfielder.

you need to look back to the Brentford days to find Tabb being a winger.

However our best centre mid is the guy on the bench.

Marek Matejovsky.

agreed

Too much of a liability despite the luxury that he offers

When we signed Murty he was a winger.

Means nothing.

Who would have seen him as a perennially injured Charlton full back ?

Well he's played on the wing and in the centre for us. He's been 5 times the player in the centre.

Focher you need to look back to the Brentford days to find Tabb being a winger.

And he was a striker with Ireland U-21s. Very versatile player but not a natural winger, SC actually said he bought JT to cover all midfield positions, and he can play full-back too. It just seemed at the time that he was bought that we had more than enough cover in the centre so it was assumed he was replacing Bobby C (I guess that was the main idea). I think he's been a revelation at CM - I've seen every minute of his performances there and have to reluctantly concede that he is ahead of Marek in the pecking order now. Neat, brave, energetic, always picks out the right pass, he's a real asset. I don't have any confidence in his finishing, and he's not that quick but he reads the game superbly and has the footballing intelligence to be able to adapt his game to the assets of his partner. He's really brought the best out in Jem.

Judging by recent Coppell comments I'll be amazed if Harper displaces Karacan. I think it's fairly unlikely he'll come in for Tabb either.

And I'm a big Harper fan. Useful to have on the bench, if only because he gives us a sort of right wing option other than Little (who can't last a match) or Kebe (who is needed for the left and is massively hit and miss).
