Whilst we know they're going down the points penalty hasn't as yet been applied so RCFC is right not to have noted their demise.

Just heard about the deduction (currently under appeal) --HNA? first with the news before my eyes as usuaLOL.

Eh, they're toast anyway of course. If Norwich join them and Charlton, that'll make three Premiership sides of very recent vintage consigned to the third division at one clout.

Saturday 25th April, matinee edition

Championship: Blackpool safe on 53 points after finishing with ten men in a home draw with Forest, who remain in danger on 50 points (GD -17) and still could be caught by second bottom Southampton (44 pts/GD -21, with a possible deduction looming; they're home to Burnley today), Norwich (46/-9) and Barnsley (48/-14; home to Wolves). Goal difference could be the undoing of Forest if they finish level with one or more of the above.

League One: Swindon virtually assured of safety in League One after a brace from Simon Cox helps them to see off visiting Bristol Rovers.

Of the bottom four sides in the division, only Carlisle, who play away to Cheltenham today, could match them on their current 52 points --but the goal differences are -3 for Swindon and -15 for Carlisle.

Also remaining in relegation peril are Hartlepool (50/-9; today v. Leeds), Yeovil (50/-23; Tranmere away), Brighton (48/-16; Huddersfield away), Northampton (46/-1, match in hand; v. Hereford) and Crewe (46/-20, played once more than the others and lost on Friday)

and to Salford City, who were cut well adrift a few weeks back.

Their 5-2 away win at Garforth gave them survival at the expense of Rossendale.

Top goalscorer in the Unibond North? with 44 goals...........Paul Brayson

RoyalChicagoFC So your bottom four in the Conference will be Lewes (now on 23 points), Northwich Victoria (40), Weymouth (43) and Woking (44), with potentially key final placements of the latter trio to be sorted out on Sunday.

So that's three southern clubs out of the four relegated. How does that work with a regionalised tier below - do they shuffle teams between Conf North and Conf South to get an even North/South split, or does the most 'northern' of the three southern clubs relegated just get shoved into Conf North?

Per Crackipedia:

At the other end of the table, the bottom four clubs in Conference National are relegated to either Conference North or Conference South. The decision as to which division the relegated club joins is made by the FA's NLS Committee, but is largely determined by geography.

That's not a complete answer, but the essence of it seems to be that it's all at the whim of the NLS Committee.

I was talking to a guy I work with who's a Cambridge fan, and he was saying that the latest he'd heard was that Braintree :!: were going to be moving into Conference North.

(For the benefit of Chi and any others from across the pond, that would be like Tampa Bay Bucs playing in the NFC North)

It is primarily down to geography but (and it's a shame that Tony Kempster won't be continuing his website next year as he used to rip into the way they work it out) there are often anomalies - last year saw three teams in the Northern Premier who were actually more "southern" than three teams in the British Gas Premier.

Geographical problems may force Reading's Women Team to fold next season too.
