I would prefer Coppell to Stay. He has all the right qualities for us for the long term and if he goes, I am sure it will be his choice, not the club sacking him.

I said a few weeks back we should go for Keane but too late now so good luck to the Tractor Boys

1st choice should be Curbishly now. Respected, knowledgable and has a history of longevity as long as he is treated well which I am sure Reading would do. Wouldn't need to spend a fortune to get us to progress either as he has the coaching skills to bring on young players to the required standard.

I suspect though that he will want a Premier League appointment - Portsmouth if they stay up? cant think who else though.

Rodgers sounds pretty unlikely to leave Watford as well. Given what he's done so far he could become an instant legend there by taking them straight back up. Quite possible.

The Rodgers rumour is based on his history with the club and not an awful lot else.
If Coppell does leave then the squad depends on who the new manager wants - this tends not to bode well for the younger members of the squad. I cant see Pearce being a regular just yet, for instance.

Seeing as they don't know when we are playing, I struggle to believe that he has already decided.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised, he has been a terrific leader, but theres not much else he can do with us, so why stay when theres nothing left to achieve?
If he does go, I'll be hoping for Middlesbrough or Blackburn to go down, Big Sam or Southgate would be handy replacements (if a 'small club' like Reading could get them that is)

Nothing new really, the underlying feeling amongst the people I know indicates that if we got promoted, SC goes off into a wilderness having got Reading back to the Premiership after the pain of relegation to which he felt solely responsible and if not, he gave it his best shot and leaves a club better off than he inherited with a bright future.

Of course, they'll be plenty of names banded around but in the case of Curbishley, his recent comments in the media suggest he feels his CV is good enough to warrant a Premiership club, and even if we were promoted, would he really want a newly promoted team where he won't have much money to spend and would be similar to when Charlton first got promoted to the Premiership. Pardew is a completely different scenario and would fit perfectly into the current structure having been here and done it and with much of the coaching team still in place (Dillon, McDermott, Hammond), but I would be surprised to see him return here.

The manager who I feel will be dicussed at length by the board is Gary Johnson. Nick Hammond has a good working relationship with Bristol City and if Johnson feels it's too good an opportunity to turn down, then I suspect compensation won't be an issue and he would be the right fit for the club. Another name who I think would realistically have a good chance would be Stuart Pearce. His contract expires with the U21's in the summer after the U21 Euro's and lives locally, I think he would see this club as a perfect opportunity to re-launch his club managerial career. The 1 stumbling block I would envisage would be that he's now a trusted coach in the Cappello set-up, and may certainly wish to keep his role for another year with the World Cup in South Africa approaching.
