Refs for the play offs

by soggy biscuit » 05 May 2009 15:46

We have Martin Atkinson in the first leg and Mike Riley in the second.

Don't see why that is interesting but some people seem to love this info

Why can't we have the top championship referees for both games.. Howard Webb's performance at the weekend was poor.

Oh no, not Mike Riley.

Howard Webb was shit, he failed to punish Birmingham's no 34 (Traore?) for barging into the back of Doyle (yes, he did give a free kick, but no yellow card?).

But by that token he did punish Traore then. He felt a free kick was worthy punishment. Correct IMO...

If Spacey had his way he would have every goal scorer booked for scoring against Reading.

His positioning for a top class referee was poor at times there were occasions when he was on top of the ball blocking the pass, he got hit once.
Maik Taylor and Stephen Carr constantly time wasted and should have been spoken to and possibly booked to address this early in the second half
Jaidee and Traore constantly fouled throughout the the game. This should have been addresed early on.. That said we were giving them heading practice.

Didn't think the ref did much wrong. He did let Brum get away with a few crunching tackles just as we were getting back into the game, which totally disrupted us.

I don't think anyone was time wasting much. Mostly perception that they were because we were running out of time. They could have taken that long to do things 3 months ago I doubt there'd have been more than the odd boo.

Yeah but Reading v. Burnley in the Championship is surely like Manchester United v. Everton/Villa/Spurs in the Prem. And we know what happens when he refs at OT. Guanranteed at least one penalty to United!

The problem is that they use these types of games to pad their statistics to enable them to favour Man Utd in the prem. If he's accused of being a Homer at Old trafford he can point to the game where he screwed the home team at the Madejski...........

He also failed to give a penalty when Duberry barged into the back of Jerome, no red card?

Get over yourself.

Wasn't it Mike Riley's backside that gifted Norwich a late winner against us at home a few seasons ago - late in the season when we were chasing promotion?
