Royal Rother

zummerset No a proven failure is the worst choice - SC goes and Mads should sell to someone with an interest in success i.e. not his own!
Wigan have a "proven failure" for a manager, as do Bolton. They seem to be making a decent fist of it.

I think zummerset was referring to Peter Taylor when he used the expression "proven failure".
OK, get the point, but actually it was PArky. Anyway, not Coppell

Martinez, Ferguson Jnr, Johnson, Rogers or Curbishley as a last resort - any are better than Coppell.

I guess Curbishley won't even consider us now.

Graeme Murty....for a laugh.

isn't curbishley just a less well-educated version of coppell?

i think we need a drastic shift in terms of what criteria we are looking for in a manager, otherwise why bother changing the gaffer at all?

jim gannon or kenny jackett if we go for young inspirational home country manager

di matteo or martinez if we go for the fancy exotic types

someone with the experience to take a team of average players and take them to win the Championship and then avoid relegation from the Premiership...it just needed a couple fo extra players!

Steve Coppell

It's a hard one. In all honesty, we're not a big step up for the likes of Gary Johnson, Roberto Martinez or Owen Coyle. Darren Ferguson has a very good position at Peterboro with lots of money to spend and he is on his way to becoming a club legend. To leave that for a club in the same league.......Paul Jewell was brilliant at Bradford and Wigan but Derby is a bad stain on his record. Lawrie Sanchez, no!

For me there is one realistic candidate who seems to fit the bill. Paul Tisdale at Exeter City. 2 consecutive promotions, not using an excess of resources or anything. His wikipedia is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Tisdale

For him a move to Reading is definitely worth it, a chance to prove himself on a bigger stage.

It'll be Curbishley. We won't take a manager from a lower club.

Martinez. but Swansea have high hopes for next year and he is Swansea through and through so doubt he would leave.

NOT

Dowie
Pardew
Boothroyd

Or anyone currently employed by RFC.

I don't mind after that.

Ideally someone who will get Reading playing attractive flowing football and will produce an entertaining and hopefully succesful team. I don't want another functional team at best and when disfunctioning is a load of shit.

I'd accept 9th place to play football similar to Swansea for example rather than watch a Tony Pulis long ball shit style side.
