The 106 season and first year in the Prem sensational, the benchmark has been set.
Steve Coppell, I will always keep an eye on your managerial career and your proteges, good luck in all facets of life. You are a lifetime Royal. You are the man amongst men.

I don't think I can put into words what I feel for the era this man has given us. For two seasons we were on top of the world, the football was a joy to watch, the submission of some teams to markedly superior quality was astounding. The last two years have been below par, but they have still given us some unrivalled days following Steve Coppell's Reading team. It was time to go Steve, but thanks for the memories. I, as I'm sure is the same for all Reading fans, will treasure them.

One thing that has been revealing is the messages I've had from fans of other clubs, all sympathising and regretting Coppell's departure. They really have been envying us these last few years.

Steve Coppell, I'd just like to say thank you for 05/06 and 06/07. I'd also like to add thanks for the games against Pardew's West Ham, the win over Liverpool, the win at Molinuex this season and the standard of football we have been able to enjoy for much of your time here. Thanks for letting us dream of becoming an established Premiership club with a 38,000 seat stadium. Thank you that we now consider finishing 4th and losing in the play-offs a massive disappointment, I'd have happily accepted such a finish when you took over in 2003. You won't be forgotten. Enjoy some well earned time out from the game for a year or so, and when you come back with another club I hope we give you the reception you deserve.

Why are you on these forums? You are clearly not a Reading fan. You clearly can't see what good Steve Coppell has done to this football club. This football club had spent many years in the basement leagues and Coppell was the one who brought success to the club.

Thank you Sir Steve for all you have done. You were one of the reasons that I became a Reading fan. You accomplished what no other Reading manager had been able to do for this club. Good luck in whatever you decide to do next.

I thought it was time for a change last season but still felt great sadness and loss when he announced he was going

Thanks for the last five and a half years

Thanks for taking this club to places most of us could only dream about
Thanks especially for Leicester away. I know it was all sewn up by then but I still get goose bumps when I think of the feeling of knowing that Reading was a Premier League club
And thanks for having more integrity than than any other manager in the league. I have been proud to be associated with a club with Steve Coppell at the helm

I feel much sadder that Coppell is going than I do about losing in the play-offs.

As others have said, he has been undoubtedly the best manager Reading have ever had. More than that, he not only brought us success but did it with a style, dignity and good grace that helped to make the club respected and admired far beyond its fanbase.

I know it is impossible, but I would feel much happier if Steve's sabbatical could be followed by him coming back to Reading refreshed and ready to build a new winning team. Our loss will in time be anotehr club's gain. I for one will always give him a welcome back at our place, whoever he is managing. I fear that before too long he will show us what we've lost.

Downright plunge now though.

Not advocating Coppell's return, his time had come for him to move on and for Reading to mve on. Rodgers has just signed a load of shit and been mince. I really think Rodger sonly has a few games left before he totally loses the fans, I think everyone expected a slgihtly tougher time this season but to be where we are is still unacceptable. Not usually one for a real knee jerk but I wouldn't be sad to see Rodgers go at all. Someone with a bit of experience to come in, get the instant respect of the players and simplify things. Make Reading tougher to break down and maybe grind out a couple of scrappy wins.

Rodgers is being to extravagant with his selections and tactics and he simply doesn't have the players to do it. By the time he finally figures that out it'll probably be too late. 4 more matches, if Reading haven't got 6/7 points, then it should be thanks for trying BRendan but CYA.
