Starfish It will be David O'Leary.

God no!

Why the hell not?

Excellent record with Leeds...took them to a champions league semi-final FFS.

Is Mike Kearney Brendan Rogers' father in law or Eamon Dolan's father in law, does anyone know?

I can see Murty joining the coaching staff, but not yet as a manager. He'll be there one day though.

So far as our manager goes, the 'big names' will probably baulk at the idea of a club that is run so tightly by the board. Not getting a war chest of £Xmillion will not suit some of them I am sure. I would expect Rodgers to be on the shortlist as he'll know the way this club works, and has been under a similar regime at Watford. Strangely I expect Ince to be up there too; he has shown at Macclesfield that he can do it on a limited budget and Blackburn hardly gave him a chance to shine did they?

Former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley is also a strong contender, while Dennis Wise, Ian Holloway, Bristol City’s Gary Johnson, Swansea’s Roberto Martinez and Peterborough’s Darren Ferguson are all in the frame.

Assistant bosses Wally Downes and Kevin Dillon would love the job, while Royals’ Academy manager Eamonn Dolan was made second favourite by the bookmakers at 7-1.

Sky Bet odds for next permanent Reading manager: 1/3 Rodgers, 7/1 Dolan, 10/1 Boothroyd, Curbishley, Pardew, Ince, 12/1 Souness, Hoddle, 14/1 Dowie, Cotterill, Holloway, D Ferguson, Barnes, Poyet, Wise, 20/1 Roeder, Jackett, Sanchez, Hassenthaler, Adams, McAllister, McGhee

It's easy to link names though. We've been here before and had the Souness's and the Hoddle's.

Rodgers is the obvious choice IMO. Links with the club, a highly thought of coach and did a terrific job in guiding Watford to safety, a mid-table finish no less.

I'll be shocked if it isn't him.

Watford were in the relegation zone when he took over and they ended up 13th - that is a very good start to a managerial career.

He'll have more talent to work with here from the Academy upwards so I would imagine he'd relish the job. It's a perfect step up for him. (No disrespect to Watford intended.)

Not sure why people are knocking Rodgers' record at Watford. He secured their Championship status in pretty quick time and has a win rate of 40%. You'd assume with our resources and infrastructure, a decent pre-season, some team investment and a dose of good luck, he'd be more than capable of matching Coppell's 45% win record. That should secure play-offs at the very least next season.
