Frewen has always come across as being very average in the reserve games, with younger players such as Walcott, Baggie and Taylor impressing far more.

I am also a bit suprised that a new manager has not had the chance to look at the players and decide who should go or stay. Obviously age plays a part with 3 of them and i expect all 4 were higher earners withn the squad? Anyway thanks to Doobs and a massive thanks to Marcus, Murts and Leroy, 3 players i think will be remembered fondly for many a year by royals fans.

The decision to release a player or offer a contract is made over the course of a season. I would have been very surprised if SSC had not had some sort of input. That aside...

Coppell clearly has pride in this club, despite the final wind down of games.

If we'd signed them spearately from another team we'd all be saying great youth signings etc etc.

One of the depressing things of the post-promotion season was that seemed to acquire players that were never used or were never quite good enough. You might want to argue that £200, 000 on a Bennett and £350, 000 on a Sodje are not large sums and I'd agree. But how many of them can we acquire and keep when in three seasons at the club, Sodje racked up three league appearances, a handful of cup games and two sendings off? Another Sodje and that's the best part of one million pounds spent with absolutely minimal return. For a team that spends rarely more than a few million each year, even £500, 000 spent on two players who were never going to feature and did not feature is a large proportion of our transfer funds spaffed against the wall.

Second, I will certainly miss Murty and Hahnemann. Both played for Reading all the way back in Tier 3. Both played immeasurable roles in not only our promotion from League 1, but also in our fledgling seasons in the Championship and in the record breaking sides. But there has to come a time when you stand back and let fresh blood come in. Hahnemann is slowly slowing, Murty is more comfortable on MotD 2. Time to say our thanks and move on.

Lita, on the other hand, can do one.

Err, Hammond has always handled the contracts of players. That is his job as DoF you doughnut. Glad to see there is little in the way of sentiment being used here, the old guard need to be cleared out and replaced with some fresh blood. Can sort of understand Gunnar being offered a 1 year for his experience in the middle, will help Cisse and Karajan

Actually I don't think Forest Gump was being a donut. Yes, Hammond does handle the contracts but in deciding not to offer these players new contracts or releasing them from existing contracts he is in effect adopting the role of manager and making a decision as to their value as players to the club.

Only I don't think there contracts expire quite yet so why couldn't the compare also have included

What the F'ck is Nick Hammond doing - assuming responsiblity as stand-in manager. Surely it would be better to wait for the new boss to be appointed before terminating contracts - especially amongst Junior players. I think most worthy managers would be rightly p1ssed off if this level of interferrence persists.

LOL, are you for real? He's not assuming any responsibility as a stand-in manager. His job is the Director of Football and he is responsible for sorting out players' contracts.

Actually are you for real? You even shoot down your own argument. Yes he is responsible for sorting out players' contracts but, in the past we have always been told it is the manager, not the DOF, that decides who should be offered those contracts.
