Absolutely top professional and great "servant" of the club. Well worthy of the respect he gets from the vast majority of Reading fans.

A place reserved in the Royals Legends hall of fame for all time. Not the best player we've had, not the most spectacular, but a true footballing hero.

I disagree with people who even deny his talent, he was a quality player in his prime. Premiership standard for sure. You take a player like Murty for granted, but now we wish we had a player like him.

Yes thanks for everything Murts. A true RFC legend.

With Murts and USA going we'll have to wait and see if anyone else walks round at the end of a game.

One of my top five Reading players ever. Will be much missed (indeed, this season he already was...)

Couple years ago, you have come to Japan with Scotish National team.
My tears did fall when you were starting 11 and saw you on the pitch.
Proud of you, got caps by Scotland as well as leading and integrationg Royals for many years.
Your football career is not over yet, of course, and wishing you all the best in your next team.

Not being funny but I could have done all them things for £10K a week and only 4 hours work per day!

Met Murts a couple of times and appreciated his willingness to chat. Top guy, honest, committed and a damn good defender!

Fantastic ambassdor to the club and a great player when he was playing. Put 110% into everything he did. He will be remembered as the captian that led us in the Premiership. His community work was fantastic and he deserved to be rewarded for it.

Thanks Murts.

You've been the heart and soul of the club for so long, it feels odd to be saying goodbye.

All the best for the future. You've been a true Captain.

Thanks Murts, disappointed that no other role could be found for you at the club, your experience and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.

From the time I first saw you pre-season at Farnboro to the end of your rfc career, you always appeared to give 100%, and for that you were loved.

I have more respect for Murts than any other player. When my son was much younger he played football with him at a Summer Fete, nothing planned - he just started having a kick-around with some kids. My son came home feeling 10 feet tall and has been a season ticket holder pretty much ever since.

You must be fishing?? If not you are a cock! While I agree there are many players who are happy to take the money for minimum effort Murts was not one of them. Great player, true gent and as genuine a guy as you could meet.

Good luck to him

If Hammond got such a prestigious role then there should definitely be one for Murts, but he probably thinks he has a season or 2 left in him.
A true Reading legend, I am well up for renaming the stand, but then it may take some shine from Mr Madejski, he would never hear of it!
I will never forget the bundle he started of Kingsley in the last home game of the promotion season after he scored his only goal of the season in a pen! A real enjoyable scene.

Thanks Murts

i can picture it all now, RFC employs a manager that does a very mediocre job next season, the following season it gets worse, and we get relegated to League 1. Then, like the milk tray man, Murty retires from football and re appears at Reading Fc to be our manager, and does a ruddy fine job and we are back on the up.

Terminal Boardom
PlasticRoyale all very well but he's no Liam Rosenior......

I don't know; there's no pleasing some people

And probably coming from someone who didn't see Murty from the start of Reading career (once he stopped being injured of course!). The guy was immense for many years until the injuries started to kick in (again). He had a couple of flawless seasons when I literally cannot remember him making a mistake - I think people forget that. Solid, reliable, f*cking legend.
