winchester_royal As I said on the UR&G thread about Irvine, I would be delighted if he came to the club, particularly if he brought Wallace and McKenna with him. His record is fantastic, and many of the Everton fans think of him as one of the major factora behind their rise into the top 6.
The trouble with that is that a very good nr 2 doesn't always make a good nr. 1. He was Academy Director at Newcastle before joining Everton as assistant manager in 2002, (and is Newcastle known as a hot bed of developing youth talent recently? Not really.) Then spent 5 years under Moyes. Preston's his first nr. 1 role (I think), and his main credentials appear to be an ability to work on a very small budget.
I'm not sure that his appointment would capture the fans imagination. Still, the same was probably said about Sir Steve when he was appointed.
Bored with the close season already!
