winchester_royal As I said on the UR&G thread about Irvine, I would be delighted if he came to the club, particularly if he brought Wallace and McKenna with him. His record is fantastic, and many of the Everton fans think of him as one of the major factora behind their rise into the top 6.

The trouble with that is that a very good nr 2 doesn't always make a good nr. 1. He was Academy Director at Newcastle before joining Everton as assistant manager in 2002, (and is Newcastle known as a hot bed of developing youth talent recently? Not really.) Then spent 5 years under Moyes. Preston's his first nr. 1 role (I think), and his main credentials appear to be an ability to work on a very small budget.

I'm not sure that his appointment would capture the fans imagination. Still, the same was probably said about Sir Steve when he was appointed.

Bored with the close season already!

BR2 Just bumped into a Pompey fan who thinks that Curbishley is going there.

Sorry, you cannot use the words "Pompey fan" and "thinks" in the same sentence. And what the heck would a Pompey fan know about the subject anyway!?!

Exiled as I am up in the North end of Scotland, the news from the mad Stad is limited, is there any sign of a new boss coming in as on this and other fan threads there seems to be very little "definate" news from not ony the wise and gifted on here but also from the OS, maybe we are secretly going to give the job to Hammond after failing to attract anyone with the £10,000 a year salary and the transfer chest of £1,000.
I was talking to someone at the weekend who's involved in running Exeter, and they told me that there has definitely been contact in the past few weeks between Reading and Exeter regarding Paul Tisdale.

Tell me when the club have EVER filtered information out a bit at a time when there is no information to give? Interviews are ongoing, that is what we've been told. Your £10,000 a year and £1,000 transfer funds comment is the expected quote of an idiot. Glad you're living up to expectations.

What about the Victor Chandler odds?

Tisdale was third favourite with them last night (behind Irvine and Curbishley)

I don't think VC are updating their odds. They havn't changed for days.

Perhaps there's just nothing not enough happening in this market to make the odds change.

Y25 Reading have asked Preston for permission to speak to manager Alan Irvine about taking over at the Madejski Stadium. (Daily Mirror)

Not sure why he would want to make the switch to be honest.

Money - both his pay packet and his wage/transfer budget.

Rumoured that Rodgers is somewhat reluctant to leave Watford so soon and Dolan’s now looking the more viable option. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Looking at all the suggested candidates they all point to those who would work with a cheap budget. There are plenty of decent candidates who for the right reason wouldn't come to Reading because the transfer budget wouldn't be there. My short list would be as follows

Curbishley
pardew
Raneri
Venables
Pearce
Ray Wilkins
who ever is number 2 at Man Utd
Colin from Palarse
Sven
Poyet
Mad Dog (just cause he would have sorted the premadonnas out)

Willing to get slated but we'll end up with a no name who nods his head. Oh I forgot why don't we get Mike Bassett!!!!!!!!
