Never going to happen whilst the rugger-buggers share with us - because it might upset them!

That official or opinion? I've contacted the club in the past about this and that was never brought up as a valid reason not to.

When supporters have tried to do things in the past that were permanent and football-orientated - like organising a community art project to paint murals of Royals heroes on the concourse walls - this was definitely rejected as being something that would upset the "tenants."

How about the "Steve Coppell Mike Catt Stand". We can call it 'The Copp and Catt'.

Shame because i would give a hell of a lot of input into designing the murals.

I'm not sure the rugby issue is a major one really.

Most of the rugby people I've come across are pretty reasonable.

For rugby fixtures the stands could keep their compass related names or they could give thre of the stands rugby related names for their games.

The stands already have two names each anyway so having a third wouldn;t really be a problem (they aren't really called North, South etc they are in fact named Red, Blue, Green and Yellow )

Right ok so it looks like there is a lot of support for this so we need to get this up and running fully.

Never going to happen, but if it did I wouldn't back Coppell or Tranter for the simple reason I don't think they'd want a stand named after them.

I think any naming should be only by agreement with the indivivual / family concerned.

It would be a real shame not to honour someone becasue we 'assumed' they wouldn;t agree.

The logical route would be identify worthy recipients and then seek their agreement, not rule them out prematurely.

But I wouldn't include Coppell at this point anyway. When he retires then fair enough, but not now.

In reply to your valid question Parky, I think a lot of the 'dislike' boils down to passion.
At Chelsea, if the home team scores....all you see are ten thousand camera's homing in on the players.
Chelsea are now a soul-less club that have no stability (continually changing their manager) and barely
get excited about winning the FA CUP (a bit of a change from 1970 when Chelsea enjoyed the FA Cup).
At least at Reading, and many other similar clubs we have played many times over recent years (WBA, Stoke,
Sheff utd to name a few), we still have the 'pleasure' of continually striving to reach the Prem.
Far far more passion in the lower leagues..and probably one of the reasons why message boards of no-prem clubs
seem to attract 'so called followers' from certain Prem clubs, where the passion simply does not exist.

Back onto original thread....surely if a stand is to be named after an ex player or manager, then that
player or manager must have been a legend. Queue next thread..."what constitutes a legend"?

I can only see one outcome should this campaign take off.....

The John Madejski East Stand
The John Madejski South Stand
The John Madejski Upper West

etc......

The rugger buggers can piss off.

Anyway, instead of naming the stands after anyone (never understood why we need to do so), why don't we name the stands after some nearby location, i.e.:

South Stand = The A33 Stand.
North Stand = The Hotel Stand.
East Stand = Green Park Stand.
West Stand = The Wind Turbine Stand.

Or maybe:

South Stand = Whitley Stand
North Stand = Smallmead Stand
West Stand = Motorway Stand
East Stand = Reading Stand
