I doubt that Swindon have played Oxford more than they have played us.

whats that got to do with it?

Surely, to have a rivalry, you need to have played the opposition several times? Oxford haven't been around much as Reading have been in the same division with Swindon over several seasons.

Watford supporters are getting more irritated by us, by the season.

Archie's penalty What about QPR?

Before we got promoted in 2006 I thought that this had the potential to develop what with the hoops and close proximity, but the two year break has probably ended it.

Dick Habbin's hairdo There is only one answer to this - o matter what the options in a poll. It's Aldersh*t.

But I guess all you plastics that don't remember the right old ding-dongs of the 60s and 70s weren't even born.

Ah, happy days (or rather daze!) being chased around the Rec by the Aldershite!!

It's the Sh1ts, of course. I'd love it if we got them in a cup competition.

Focher
Thaumagurist* I find it amusing that there are suggestions that Swindon don't view us as a rival. We've played them 90 odd times, as opposed to the few times we've played Aldershot or Oxford.

That's right. I've yet to meet an Oxford or Swindon fan that consider us rivals. We're seen as a plastic club to both of them. I think we can put that down to jealousy though.

I don't really think that we have a proper rival.

I chose Oxford but none at the moment are a rivalry of any note.

On a personal level I would say QPR but that's only down to having mates who support them and feel the need to give me abuse at every little oppertunity. Their hatred towards Reading is beyond humanity at times but never have I had a decent answer as to why when I try to get to the bottom of it. Strange.

for me it will always be QPR, when ever we're in the same league it has always been the fixture i looked for first. even as a boy in the elm park days i always saw them as our local rivals and never really understood our dislike of swindon and oxford as theyre much further away.
plus theres always the whole 'plastic hoop' thing, being called a QPR fan when ever you wear a Royals shirt wears thin after 20 years!. That and every Rangers fan ive ever met is as obnoxious and annoying as Chelseas and Manures combined!
i think theres a section of Rangers fans who are also turning away from Chelsea and looking towards us with more and more distain, i certainly felt it in both of last years fixtures.

Anyone who went to the Swindon friendly a couple of years ago with the huge steward presence, police helicopter and hillbilly reading fan getting attacked would see them as a rival.

Define rival.

Don't Bournemouth have an irrational hatred of Reading for some reason?

For me our biggest rivals will be the 23 other clubs in the same division as us.

When I saw the topic I immediatly thought LOCAL DERBY and of course that has to be Swindon who we have played reguarly and many times over the years. we only started playing Oxford in the early sixties
Actually Swindon are not that close but we always hated them because they got ,the Railway Workshops instead of us.
As for Aldershot there have not been too many gams over the years although the most frightening crowd I have ever been in was at their ground in an F.A. Cup tie in the early sixties. For some reason an extra large crowd turned up and people were being passed out over the heads of the crowd because of the pressure.Cannot remeber the score but think we won.

I've thought about this and the best I can come up with is Sheffield United.

Not local, but certainly some history - not least with Wally and Colin. The number of times we've finished next to them in the table is scary - it's at least twice in the last four years.

I'm working it out on the basis of which clubs have we played most often in LEAGUE matches in the past 20 years.

Any guesses?
