West Stand Man How about naming them after the 4 points of the compass? Easy to remember, and there's little difficulty in finding them if you know which way you are facing.

Good point. But it won't satisfy those who want proper names. Therefore I propose that we pick names that start with the first letter of the compass point.

i.e.

North Stand = Noel Hunt Stand (it's only an example....)
South Stand = Senior Stand
East Stand = Evans Stand
West Stand = Wayne oxf*rd Stand!

One of the stands should be named after Andy West for all the work he did

Why do we need all stands named after things. Even if we only had 1 or 2 out of 4 re-named it's something, plus I think it would be a hell of alot easier to be taken seriously by STAR and the club.

How about

The 134 years of mediocrity Stand
The "no one's heard of it" cup Stand
The brief time in the top flight Stand
The return to mediocrity Stand

Or

The 1103 Minutes End (I hope I got that right  )
The 13 Wins Stand
The 106 Points Stand
The 2nd and we still didn't go up End (for the away fans)

seating plan for old trafford

Welcome to the Old Trafford seating plan. The Stadium is divided into four main stands, North, South, East and West, and each stand has its own pricing structure indicated on the right.

do man utd have no history? is there a clamour to name there stands after their great players?

why do we need to name our stands after famous people or events?

if its good enough for man utd, lets act like a "big club" and use the same naming convention

Alternatively, we could name them after sponsors that will pay for a large logo to be put on the side of the stand. I suggest Fosters and Kyocera Mita might be interested?

They have Sir Matt Busby Way and also have statues. They don't need all stands named after players to remind anyone because the fans and club are proud of their history and you sense it and get to know about it in different ways.
I would definitely like to see some stands re-named, maybe not all of them but there's nothing wrong with a nod to your clubs past, especially being in a new all-seater bowl which has no character or any unique feeling. The Robin Friday East Stand won't hurt, neither will splashing a few big pics up around the ground of great moments and players.

That was all a cmplete waste of my time though as nothing will be getting changed.

I like the idea of naming a stand the '106 stand'.

Except, of course, plenty of Mancs still refer to the real names of the ends of Old Trafford. My aunt's season ticket was very much in the Stretford End, not the (ummm...?) West Stand, and the (ummm...?) South Stand is still the Main Stand to a lot of people. Don't tend to hear the Scoreboard End called that so much, though; I have a feeling the North Stand may always have been that.

The South Stand is already named 'The Fosters South Stand'

We could have the 'Guinness North Stand'

The 'Bollinger West Stand'

and The 'Babycham East Stand'.

Sun Tzu
Jerry St Clair There was a campaign of sorts on here about 10 years ago, just after Maurice Evans died, to rename the East Stand The Maurice Evans Stand. Some reported that they'd phoned the ticket office asking for seats in the Maurice Evans Stand and the TO knew what they were talking about. As with most things Reading, though, it petered out because there was never really the will there to carry it through.

That is wrong.

The Evans family made it quite clear that they didn't want a stand named after him. The plaque was agreed with them as an appropriate memorial and despite the suggestions that RFC fans don't deliver it was put in place thanks 100% to the work of fans.

Fans have also delivered on other things in the past but I would agree that these days most people seem happy to post a few comments on a website rather than put their heads above the parapet and actually do anything....

No it isn't. There WAS a campaign on here that was entirely seperate to the STAR involment in the plaque (and, iirc, happened after the unveiling of the plaque). FWIW, I agree with you that the Evans family wishes should be paramount. But the campaign on here fizzled out because of apathy, nothing else.

Deathy
I don't buy into the bollocks that we can't do it because of sponsors and sponsors not liking having for example: The Robin Friday Fosters South Stand.

It would be wrong to associate Robin Friday with alcohol though.....

naming a stand

I thought that given the fact that SSC had in giving some of us RFC fans a trip to the promised land that a fitting thankyou would be to name a stand after him now rather than in years to come when it might be too late. I really think we will never see the same again and it would be a fitting tribute to a true gent - any thoughts
