Deathy Many would have said they didn't want Chris Makin when we signed him, but he proved valuable cover.

Sign him up!

We didn't have young promising cover like Kelly around that time though did we?

We have cover at Centreback. If we sign someone there we need them to be better than what we already have. Have you not learnt what happens when you sign lots of players no better than you already have?

A big squad full of mediocre players unable to step up and turn things around when the first team aren't performing.

Where exactly is this cover at centre back?

We released Sodje, Bennett and Duberry.

Ingimarsson is injured and may struggle to make the start of the season

Bikey, even if he stays at Reading is suspended for the first 3 games.

Which by my reckoning means we'll have a choice of Pearce and Cisse for centre backs on the opening day.

Given his age and taking into account a whole season he is not a significantly better option than any of our current Centrebacks

When we won the title we had two. We currently have four. If Ivar isn't going to be fit we may need to get a loan in to replace him in the short term. If Bikey leaves we'll probably need to replace him. But not with a short term mediocre signing like Hreidersson

Kelly is a right back. Great help that'd be at centre back and left back! :|

Bikey, Cisse, Pearce, Ingimarsson, Gunnarsson and maybe Cork at centre back - that quite enough?

Cork is speculation, Bikey is meant to be off, Cisse is a defensive midfielder that provides reasonable cover but has been caught out and found to be vulnerable at the back, and Gunnarsson is old and slow and a midfielder than can fill in in an emergency, not week in week out. He'd be ripped to pieces.

Herman can play left back (we need cover) and centre back. On a free, that's a blinding bit of business!

Bikey's still here, Ingimarsson's had one bad injury in his 6 years at the club so he's hardly 'injury prone', Cisse's fine at centre back, Pearce will be quality, Gunnarsson's of similar age, probably even younger than Hreidarsson and Cork isn't ours yet, but it looks like there's every possibility he will be.

Kelly played left back for the reserves on a regular basis. His conversion to a right back is fairly recent.

And yes, I do know he is right footed !!

so youre saying youd be happy if brendan went into the season with 1 old defender, two fill in CMs, pearce and A.Loanee?
add in a happy and staying bikey and id be happier,
but if he went id happily take someone of the experience of herman as replacement

He may have picked up the odd knock but if you look back through his record you'll struggle to find any time when he' smissed games through injury. An incredibly consistent 40+ games a season.

Why ?
If he misses a game then that defines whether an injury is significant or not doesn't it ?
He's certainly not injury prone as per the original claim....

LOL

calm down calm down

hes certainly been injured on mulltiple occasions, and missed games in a couple of spells
even the most blinkered would concede this is only likely to increase

and could you please stop interfering in my royalee baiting.

Yes, I'd be happy - a lot happier than going into a season without a right winger.

Carry on with the Royalee baiting !!

But leave Ivar out of it....

If in 6 years he's missed a couple of games through injury then he's really not injury prone. Injury prone players are people like Kitson who pick up injuries while already out injured !

Will it increase ? No reason why it should. Some players just don't get injured, and most injuries occur where a player has had a previous problem and it flares up again.

All games played by Ivar, including cups and internationals

2008/9 29 Injured in January.
2007/8 39
2006/7 49
2005/6 53
2004/5 49 That's not bad considering he got dropped for Martin Keown.
2003/4 32 But we did sign him in October and he got a ban for a red card against Bradford.

That's quite a lot for an injury prone "old" defender who hasn't even turned 32 yet!!
