Seeing as how I'm now living and working 6 miles from Burton On Trent, it's gotta be away to the Brewers...please.

AFC Bournemouth
Aldershot Town
Barnet
Brentford
Brighton & Hove Albion
Burton Albion
Cheltenham Town
Dagenham & Redbridge
Exeter City
Gillingham
Hereford United
Leyton Orient
Northampton Town
Shrewsbury Town
Swindon Town
Torquay United
Wycombe Wanderers
Yeovil Town

These are the 'unseeded' South clubs so reading will draw one of them.

Ah, rubbish. I was hoping for one of the Bristol clubs away. Have to be Swindon or Cheltenham out of that lot then.

Surely Northampton isn't in our region.

Hang on - if Burton is, then Northampton must be (or am I suffering early onset dementia)

Rather obviously, it must depend on the candidates. If more than half the clubs are in the north, then the line would have to be drawn a long way up.

The Southern pairings will actually be receiving one more draw. However, due to the first round only accommodating 70 teams, Newcastle and Middlesbrough receive byes as a result of finishing the highest in the league of the other 72 league teams.

Thereby Sout' has 18 draws, North has 17 draws.

The first 35 are seeded (meaning Walsall, who finished 13th in League One are the last seeded team), and the other 35 are unseeded and will be drawn against a seeded side.

Peterborough fall into the Southern category despite being further north than Coventry, as do Shrewsbury who sit higher in the country than Coventry, Walsall, West Brom, Leicester and Peterborough but not Burton.

The seedings determine this draw rather than the geography.

Why did we not get a bye last season? We were third from bottom of the Prem after all?

We were offered one, but declined it because the powers that be realised that if we accepted a bye then we'd miss out on a good night out at Dagenham & Redbridge, and that we'd not be able to tick a new ground off our lists.

Seriously, I have no idea, except that they give byes because of the clash of matches with the UEFA Cup, and when the teams taking part in that join the League Cup. And as this season it's the "Europa League" with even more matches I suspect a few more teams need byes than last year.

But who cares - start of the season away days to some of the smaller clubs are highlights of the season.

This. Rather liking the people making judgements with barely half of the facts let alone a full complement - and they're FANTASTICALLY easy to check.

The only issue might be having a club seeded in one region to ensure an even number of teams within a region.(WBA, for example, are seeded and northern; yet probably south of Burton) (LOOK HERE YOU SLACK JAWED NUMPTIES)

Northampton isn't actually that far north, by the way.

North-east of Oxfordshire, bordering Warwickshire to the west, Leicestershire to the north (I think), Rutland, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire to the south and Cambridgeshire to the east.
