Michael Owen

by soggy biscuit » 16 Jun 2009 08:52

Michael Owen has employed sports agency Wasserman Media Group to assist him in finding a new club and in the process have produced a 34 page brochure on the former England international detailing the highlights of his career.

The brochure, much of which is just photo's of Owen, also gives an insight into what could have been 'were it not for an unhappy spell at Real Madrid and two injury-scarred years at Newcastle, he would be spoken about in the same breath as Torres and Ronaldo and valued in the priceless figures that only match-winning goalscorers ever justify'

On a page titled "Michael Owen – Brand Values", WMG lists 21 of the player's virtues, including "Fit and healthy". Other values listed include: "Good looking", "Sincere", "Respected" and "Charismatic".

WMG have confirmed that Everton, Aston Villa, West Ham & Manchester City have all requested a copy of the brochure.

LOL, just LOL.

Who'd have predicted 5 years ago Owen would be at a Championship club before he hit 30? :|

Tony Le Mesmer I think he will retire.

At 29?

A bit of a waste methinks.

He should be pushing to get a place in the 2010 World Cup squad.

I don't know why people are laughing at Owen. I think it's a great crying shame that a brilliant England striker (one who scored a hat-trick against Germany, no less) is having problems these days.

Really?

Surely his woes stem from that frankly horrific and frankly bizarre injury against Sweden in 2006?

He seemed to do alright at Real Madrid, given the chances he got, and had an impressive start to his Newcastle career then injury to his foot and then rushed back for England (coupled with Sven picking Theo Walcott :| ).

I agree with you. He did ok for Real - in fact, I've checked his league stats for Real: played=20(15), goals=13. Not bad.

It's a shame Michael Owen has Liverpool syndrome. Just because you were good once, doesn't mean you're good now.

Not saying he didn't do well and he did score a lot of goals but was on the bench a fair bit - he would have been better (from an English point of view) staying in the Premiership with one of the top 4 clubs.....

They didn't want him? :|

Going on a Jonothan Wilson-fest here, the Top 4 have all adopted something approaching a 4-2-3-1 in recent years, with a front striker who is fast, strong and as much of an athlete as a finisher and then a midfield three behind who break past the striker in support. The nearest thing to an old school striker is Torres but I think he's surprisingly fast, strong and deceptively good in the air. United have Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez who can all play in a range of roles. Arsenal have Adebayor whilst Arshavin, Eduardo, van Persie fit the attacking midfield three much more neatly.

Owen really doesn't fit into either mould - hence why Benitez was happy to sell, hence why he went to Newcastle and not one of the other big 4, hence why he got limited time at Real Madrid.

In the context of what I wrote. yes. definitely.

To be fair, I was expecting it to be frimmers or LUX to be the one to try to pick an arbitary and, essentially, pointless hole in my post so you win ... err ... a  .
