Reading Reserves crowned Champions!

Reading's reserves have been named overall Totesport.com Combination Champions for 2008/9.

The Combination is split into three divisions - Central, East and Wales & West. We won the Central division with 42 points, losing just two out of our 18 fixtures.

Plymouth won the Wales & West Division but only took 38 points, while Luton were East winners with 31 points.

Therefore Brian McDermott's Royals have been crowned overall winners.

In addition, we finished top of our five-team Combination Cup Group A, and could secure the double when we play Group B winners Crystal Palace in a game to be arranged.

Reading will play in the Wales & West Division next season.

The full list of teams is:
AFC Bournemouth, Bristol City, Exeter City, Forest Green Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Reading, Salisbury City, Southampton, Swansea City and Swindon Town.

A fixture list will be published in due course.

A clear sign our academy is progressing well, McDermott is a decent reserves coach and we have a bright future - imagine if our Academy gained the same prestige of Man City or West Ham's academies?

Do we win anything more tangible for this? Like a cup or money or something?

I believe our reserves get to play in the qualifying round of the European Reserves Champions League, which is exciting.

For me the change of division is good I look forward to seeing any other hobnobber at St.James's park next season.
I haven't been to a reserves game since the early sixties when a good gate was about a thousand people.
