doesnt look like were getting him then

Unlikely we'd sign anyone from a Championship club, they'd cost more than we are willing to spend.I'd be inclined to look at players currently plying their trades in the lower leagues. Dagenham or lower, that sort of club

1. According to the Sky report Campbell-Ryce has yet to put pen to paper on the deal as he's still on holiday. For the record Glen Little agreed a contract verbally last season and then went to Portsmouth so all that report means is that, in lieu of any other interest, Jamal is happy to stay with Barnsley

2. Watford's Tommy Smith is expected to be Reading's target for a replacement

Rubbish. The only reason we looked out of our own tier under Coppell was because of Coppell. Whilst it's believed in HNA? that it's Madejski's wallet being held tight, he's always said there is money available for the right players and if we signed C-R and/or Smith, it's because Rodgers wanted them and Madejski believed his judgement.

In January we we all set to sign Jamal Campbell-Ryce as a replacement for SHunt - agreement in principle, fee agreed and all that. But no-one wanted SHunt so it never happened.

I've heard that first-hand and have no reason to doubt it.

No it's definite Tommy, trouble is the after dinner circuit has proven very lucrative for him since he left Liverpool and apparently WCBAP

Tommy Smith would fit the bill, We now need an experienced striker to lead the line, I`d imagine it would be new striker plus one of Noel Hunt or Shane long with hopefully Simon Church off the bench and maybe Mooney (wonder if he`ll get alook in this season?)
Are there any strikers realistically any one can think of that we could go for apart from Tommy Smith? Nice to have options!!

Jermaine Beckford, Ricky Lambert? Some premiership quality would be nice, alan smith? :D

Hopefully a new "Doyle" if that is possible.

Beckford would be good, would really look forward to seeing Ricky Lambert here (wasn`t he linked with Bolton though?) Alan Smith though-no thanks, would run all day for you and has played at the highest level but just doesn`t score enough goals, also always seems to be injured.
Oh well, looks like Smith and Rasiak then!! Could do worse, :o

A big if, but if we're expecting Rodgers to move us towards some sort of 4-5-1 then I don't think Beckford fits the mould that well as he doesn't look to be hard working enough for that. He does score some terrific goals though and I think he looks like a good Championship forward in the right team.

Always been quite a fan of Alan Smith though, and think he'd work ok as a lone center forward because he is hard working, can hold the ball up and is decent in the air. He might lack a bit of pace for it, but he's by no means slow. I can't see it being an option though as he'll still want more wages than we'd be happy to fork out, especially on a player who just doesn't seem to be able to get himself fit to play enough games. I think he'd score a decent amount of goals if he was played upfront consistently, especially at this level!

I think we could do worse than Shefki Kuqi for a short term big man option. Palace can't/won't afford his wage demands, but I don't think they're too flush. Might be the experienced bruiser we need upfront to help the youngster come along.

I know a Rovers fan who claims that Lambert is fat, lazy and not a Championship striker. I hope we don't go for him. Bring back Simon Cox?

I've barely posted in the last 6 months, I now remember why.

LOL at 'bring back Simon Cox'. Perhaps rhroyal can lend Brendan the other £2m he'll need to buy him.
