Thanks for everything Kevin; you were part of the greatest team Reading Fc has ever had (and may ever have) and you will remain a total legend for us as a result.

Good luck in the future and all the best to you for the rest of your career.

Doyle has always conducted himself well both on and off the pitch. There are very few genuinely "nice" players around these days and we've just lost one of the best. Good luck to him - I hope he goes on to even bigger and better things.

Shame he's gone there - really didn't think he would but good luck to him, one of the best players ever to pull on a Reading shirt with a refreshing attitude that many would do well to follow. Hopefully we'll see him in the Premiership in a year at the Madejski.

It's being reported on Sky Sports news that Wolves contacted Doyle a day after they got promoted, might explain his form for the last 4 games.

And if they offered us £6.5M on that day, we would be contractually unable to stop them contacting him.

You mean him being injured and not getting any service? Yayyyy, another excuse the Coppell cuddlers can have for why we didn't score enough goals to go up.

Alan Partridge Just read his interview and you'd expect nothing less from someone. There is a way to conduct yourself and Kevin Doyle has done that outstandingly well throughout his time here unlike his fellow countryman. He's never once asked to leave or demanded this and that in the press. Shrugged off speculation and done his best, he's got his move fair play to him.

It's the round thing I just watched the video of his departure. Interesting. He says he talked to Coppell who told him to go to the clubs and make his own mind up. It was a bit hard to make out, but it seems that later Doyle mentions that Coppell told him he'd (presumably Coppell) be delighted if he (Doyle) went to Wolves. Is Coppell a closet Wolves fan?

No, I think he said that Coppell said he (Doyle) would love it at Wolves if he went there. It was a little hard to work out. But I doubt Coppell had a negative thing to say about *any* of the teams that Kevin could have gone to.

What are we here for?
Mr Irascible, 30 Jun 2009 12:57
As a fan of 40 plus years I have followed the club through thick and thin...mainly thin. One of the happiest days of my life was at Leicester when we finally reached the Premiership. One fantastic year followed then the disappointment of the near relegation. Throughout the recent years I have been a firm supporter of the board as they aim to build a self-sufficient club and I can see that the sale of Doyle helps to make more funds available.....but....

I am saddened to read on the web site that this represents "excellent business for the club". In basic factual terms I can see that buying players and making profits on their sale does indeed represent good business.

But where in the objectives of the club do ambition, promotion, entertainment etc stand? If our only aim on business is to make the profits then, as a long standing and (one would have thought) valued customer where does the club deliver to me?

Being a fan is a highly emotional attachment and one that can cost a lot in terms of time and money...but if our only aim is to be a trader of players then what I am expecting to see this season...a team of players with maybe some future ahead of them...if sold to the highest bidder when they reach a higher standard?

I am becoming a bit disillusioned...we lost our place at the top table through complacency...will we spend the next few years in the Div2/Div 3 levels of the past.

I think it is time to hear from the board about their true mission!

I despair for the human race, really I do. The world is full of such reactionary ignorant morons.

Sometimes I wish thermonuclear oblivion hadn't been staved off during the cold war. The world would probably be a better place(s).

Top guy and done a great job over the last 4 years but all in all we've done well to get that sort of money for him quite honestly.

He is unproven in the Prem to a large extent with just one good season and what is noticable about him (even in championship) is that he cannot do the business in a struggling side which is where is will be playing next season.

He has not risked going to a a bigger club as it is world cup year and he needs to be playing every week.

Royal With Cheese
Royalee There's no doubting that a decent Premiership club would be attractive, but like I said he wants to stay at Reading and there has been no contact whatsoever, so this rumour is absolute bollocks - if Wolves had proper money to spend like is being touted here then they wouldn't be signing the likes of Marcus Hahnemann. In any event, the guy's not an idiot like Hunt so he wouldn't go to a team who'll be back down in the Championship next year just for the sake of a few quid and an ego boost as he's clearly a level-headed, likeable guy.

Then again, I don't know why I'm even attempting to put you delirious folk at ease, half of you think we'll struggle to beat Forest and Barnsley and are even worried we won't be in the top half which is rather hilarious.

:?
