Alan Partridge That's a few minutes of my life i won't get back, shockingly tediously dull article that was in no way thought provoking or a funny rant.

Just a load of boring waffle.

Spacey by proxy, then.

Cristiano Ronaldo is being investigated by police over an attack on a 17-year-old girl, is has been claimed.

The 24-year-old is alleged to have flown into a rage when he spotted student Sara Pardal videoing him in the street.

Ronaldo reportedly kicked in the window of a car the girl was sat in, sending shards of glass all over her.

The FIFA World Player of the Year could face charges for wounding and destroying property, Portuguese media reported.

He could also be ordered to pay compensation to his alleged victim.

The teenager is said to have told police she was videoing Ronaldo because she was a fan.

However, some reports said she was with a freelance paparazzi photographer who had allegedly been following the star.

The incident took place at around 9pm on Sunday in Lisbon, where Ronaldo is supposed to be relaxing before being presented as a Real Madrid player in Spain next Monday.

He completed his dream £80 million move from Manchester United last Friday.

Ronaldo was on his way to see Elton John in concert with his mother Dolores, 54, sisters Elma and Catia and some friends when he spotted the girl videoing him from a car in the Parque das Nacoes area of the city.

He is alleged to have leapt out of his £200,000 red Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and started to boot the window next to the girl.

Portuguese daily Correio da Manha said the girl later told police she was videoing the footballer because she is a fan, and that she wanted to get an autograph.

However, rival newspaper 24 Horas claimed the girl was in the car with freelance photographer Hugo Martins, 35, and they had allegedly just followed Ronaldo from his house to the Ritz Hotel and back again.

The footballer has been trailed closely by photographers in his native country since returning from his holiday in Los Angeles.

Tabloid 24 Horas claimed: "On arriving at the door of his residence, the star stopped the car and spent a few minutes speaking to his mother.

"At the moment he realised he was still being observed, Cristiano Ronaldo got out of his car in a rage and gave a kick to the window where the girl was sat." Sara arrived at the Hospital Sao Jose shortly before 11pm where she was treated for cuts to her arms.

She is said to have reported the incident to the Public Security Police on Monday at 17.50pm.

A police spokesman refused to confirm or deny the Portuguese reports.

The spokesman said: "We cannot make any comment whatsoever. We will not be confirming or denying these stories.

"You will have to ask the girl or Cristiano Ronaldo." And the girl's father refused to talk about the alleged incident. Speaking at his home in Lisbon, he said: "I cannot talk to you."

Ronaldo's management company Gestifute said in a statement: "Cristiano Ronaldo was the victim of a trap by the paparazzi which ended up in a confrontation between those involved, after the best player in the world and his mother were the target of persecution on the streets of Lisbon."

They added that Ronaldo had given his own version of events in which he said: "The incident involved an individual who unfortunately does not care what he does to achieve his aims, who I have seen standing for days on end in front of my house, eating yoghurts and holding a camera in his hand, waiting for anything newsworthy to happen, and who due to frustration and boredom changed his strategy. He chased me from the car outside the Ritz Hotel to the Expo area, which is where my apartment is.

"I was accompanied by my mother, and he by a young woman who throughout our whole journey ostensibly and provocatively filmed all our movements. This persecution caused my mother to be so disturbed and upset that I had to stop my car to try to convince them to leave us in peace."

The problem is that the player's request was not complied with, and faced with Dolores Aveiro's distress, Cristiano Ronaldo ended up reacting impulsively, kicking the car containing the individual in question and his travelling companion.

His statement said: "When I'm on my own, fine, I try to swallow it and remain indifferent. But when my mother is involved, then I'm sorry but I don't let anyone, I repeat anyone, harass her. I regret what I did, but I can't promise that I would not react in the same way again in the same circumstances, because when my mother is involved it is very difficult for me to keep a calm state of mind", he states.

His statement continued: "He immediately tried to sell the video recording to the company that represents me, but I could never – I emphasis, never – agree to a proposal that has only one name: extortion."

"During the attempt to negotiate the sale of the video, the girl companion, although it could clearly be seen she had no visible injury, appeared wearing a hospital gown, which leads me to believe they plan to add various items to the small encounter that actually took place. Unfortunately, I know that one day soon everything they recorded will be available in every newspaper and what they falsely add will be credited, because unfortunately there are always buyers, there are unscrupulous people and there will continue to be rewards for this reckless attempt to try everything, at any cost, for personal gain. That's not my way. I could have bought the tape and the subject would never have been made public, but I know it will be made public. Because that's what I want, because this is the only way I know how to be in life."

Cristiano Ronaldo has already put the case in the hands of his lawyers.
