Will it be a Long Hunt

by Thaumagurist* » 01 Jul 2009 15:44

Will it be a Long Hunt
For promotion to the Promised Land?
However, let's be blunt,
We'll need to tell certain players to be off on their Bikeys
And spend wisely on new ones.

We will Hamer the opposition into submission,
And Pearce their defences easily!
Like a Harper tuning his instrument,
Our midfield will orchestrate our attacks like silly!
That will be a fine thing.

The goal will be in the sights of our Gunnars
"Son, you'll see a fine game!" Fathers will say to their boys
As the fans pack into the stadium, breathing in the air
of their Church of Football,
Where a Reading victory is expected.

Evenings under the Moon,
"'Ey up, will we win tonight?" asks an anxious fan.
"yeah, definitely the opposition are a bunch of Cissies!"
Comes the reply from his fellow man.
So confident!

Reading fans do the Karacan
When Reading score!
Drink like hooray Henrys
When Reading win!
No one cares who picks up the Tabb.

Sorry for that. That seems like a lot of crap.

There must be a few other names to stick in a poem. I couldn't think of how to fit in Matejovsky, Federici, Armstrong, Ingimarsson or even Kelly.

If their legs are willing and their arms stong
These lads will battle to the final gong
In the matter of skiing, they care not a jot
Their sport is football and by God it's bloody hot...
...today

Stands the clock at quarter past four
The scoreboard betrays a sorry draw
Two ardent teams strive witlessly for more
Time for Matejovsky

On he comes, a smiling saviour for all
Looks lightweight against defenders tall
And forlornly loses the oxf*rd ball
Piss off Matejovsky

A bit too negative for my taste.

Long and N Hunt up front could work, if Rodgers can make them.

Thaumagurist* Sorry for that. That seems like a lot of crap.

As good as many a poem I had to learn at school anyway.

I see somebody has sent the Evening Post a poem. It's probably a lot better than my effort:

It's all good fun, Spacey! :)
