Manchester United are now favourites with the Bookies to sign Michael Owen having cut the odds today from 20-1 to 4/7.

Talksport (lol) also claimed earlier that they have been told that Owen has already held talks with Utd and they are only willing to offer a pay as you play contract to him.

Good business by United IMHO,if he's not fit, he's not costing, if he is fit, he will still be one of the best finishers in the division.

I can see both sides to signing Owen, good and bad.

The bad is that with £80m in the bank is Owen the nest we can come up with? Maybe signs that the belt is getting tighter at Galzer HQ. The bad is also that he's a washed up ex Liverpool Scouse Bastard. (Rooney is now a Manc)

The good is that as a free transfer, on pretty much a pay as you play contract he is low risk, and his goal scoring record is as good as anyone's.

At least he doesn't hide away from his Everton background unlike a certain Stevie Mee

Well that was a bit of a shocker! A fit Michael Owen in a team that creates chances will still score goals imo, the only problem is getting him out on the park.

Must admit If I was a Man utd fan I'd be a little concerned that the likes of Ronaldo have left and the replacements are Valencia and Owen, not really awe inspiring stuff.

Hard to see where else United can turn to, they wanted Benzema and he turned them down, they wanted Ribery and he's turned them down, there are only a few top end of the market players out there so where do they go now? A gamble on Owen. Hmmm.

Owen is past it, the injuries have done for him as a top class striker. Squad player only at any better than middling Premiership side.

Bad move by United, bit like Fowler going back to Liverpool!

MiniRoyal United have, imho, lacked a finisher for a while now.

You mean since Ruud went and we won 3 league titles on the bounce?

Has he spoken to Phil Brown yet? Cos he semed pretty sure that he'd be speaking with him this week and that Michael Owen would be playing for Phil Brown FC.

If it pays off it's also the best possible news for England.
