1.8 million - at that price, no thanks.... Just under the mill at his age with a year lefton his contract is about the right money. And he's not an out and out goalscorer anyway....

Unfortunately, in todays's inflated market (blame Real Madrid), that is the sort of price you are going to have to play for a player of that 'quality'. According to goal scoring/assists stats he was the second most effective strikerafter Ebankes blake last season and the new boss knows him well and seems to rate him.

I personally think 750k is a derisory offer and to be honest if you believe everything you ead in the press, I am beginning to get a bit p---eed off with the cuurent stance being taken by Madjeski and co if they are serious about the club challenging for honours next season.

Same old Reading fans, far too impatient. Let's not go spending upwards of £2m on a 29-y-o striker. There are plenty more out there and Smith's good but he's hardly Lionel bleedin' Messi. Two strikers? Long, Church, Mooney, N Hunt...that's four, but I do agree we need something more substantial alongside that lot.

Good, whilst he did well at Watford I don't see how an injury prone 29 year old is worth £1.8 million to be honest. Even if we are flush with cash, it just does not make sense to spend that money on a player like him

We all know he rates him highly, a lot of managers will have key players that they will try and get to follow them between clubs. All I am worried about is his injury record, his age and the fee involved. Let's face it, our recent record of keeping those nearing or entering the twilight of their careers has not been the greatest. We are talking about buying our main strike partner for Noel, so this is a man that needs to play 30+ games this season. Just seems a bit too risky for us

They are not serious - they are paying lip service - and totally agree but Reading are the team for making derisory offers, some of which come off, many that probably dont!

So it all comes down to how much BR thinks Tommy will be a key part of the set up he's building.

We match the bid and I'm 99% sure he'll sign for us over any other likely club.

Of course BR may noiw decide that his worth to the squad is not worth the outlay and look elsewhere.

I have no doubt that Smith would come to the Mad Stad if we matched the offers that Watford are getting, but as we have seen over the past couple of seasons, rightly or wrongly the bigger clubs are setting the fee values, of the lesser clubs, with their massive signings and that just aint the way that Reading operate, we have failed severly over the past two seasons to invest, to secure our Premiership status or get back there and I see difference this closed season we are still operating on year 2000 valuations, just maybe if the players we were after would agree to a name change i.e Tommy Madejski Smith, Jermaine Madejski Campbell-Rice we might have more success in bringing new blood in.
