Surely the fact that we roughly broke even on these players shows that we probably had the valuations about right? Where we were wrong was thinking they'd fit our style and culture.

... Good shout! However further investigations have revealed he is a solid, tasty CB as well and has played there for England so maybe a
replacement for Dubery? Who knows but he wouldnt be looking to replace Armstrong anyway so he must have other ideas - who knows?

£1.8 million is far too much money to pay for Smith - 800k would have been a reasonable deal but he's 29 and there are better long term prospects about for that money.
