End of An Old Era Or Beginning Of A New One?

by Royal Boil » 04 Jul 2009 00:31

With the Manager, coaching staff, most of the Premiership team and the buzz gone, some might say that the good times have also gone and we can settle back into being "Little old Reading" and expecting a future of CCC obscurity at best, and a rapid descent down the leagues at worst. Others might claim that good foundations have been laid by the previous regime to mount a renewed push for a place at the high table, and we've done some canny business (yet again) in the transfer market. Which camp do you fall into? I'd actually go for the latter because I felt that the previous crowd had gone backwards and lacked the nous to turn it around, and that we have installed a new manager who comes well regarded by those who know more about the ins and outs of the game than I do, but that's just a personal opinion. Any thoughts?

Its the Beginning of a new one now i suppose, the one thats just gone was by far the greatest we've ever had and will be for years to come. Bring on the new era now though i suppose, I'm quite excited for this season.

I'm pretty sure if you start a new era, you've essentially ended an old one.

P.S. are you stoned and having a philosophical moment.

Could it be the beginning of a new error?

Spot on. This has to be the dumbest question for a while, and it warrants no response except to observe that it is dumb.

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

I'm very much of the opinion that the buzz around the club was killed off by the very man who got us there by his indecision and lack of self-confidence and drive and am very very excited indeed about this new era. This is probably the most excited I've ever been about RFC since my first game in '93, I really feel we've got a super manager, top class coaching and youth system and all the other bits in between to match with a young squad good enough to win the league with a couple of adjustments and really push on from there.

I feel that the old management wasn't making best use of what we had at our disposal which is what was so frustrating because it wasn't how the club was being run (IMO it's arguably the best run club in the country and other clubs have voiced their opinions about how impressed they are with RFC), it was the man in charge of team affairs lacking trust in what we have and being able to take new ideas on board. Brendan Rodgers is the complete opposite of that, he is young, ambitious, self-assured and not afraid to show it, takes on lots of new ideas and has learnt from the best and has a superb track record given how young he is, plus he's a Reading man.

Royal Boil we can settle back into being "Little old Reading" and expecting a future of CCC obscurity at best, Any thoughts?

Little old Reading have still got good odds at the bookie's for a return to The Premier League.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again
