Hogmeister Royal The Sun (a reliable source if ever there was one) say we're in for Tyson (at £1m), which might have a glimmer of truth given Buck's comment about "bringing in 2-4 players that I've worked with before".

Ian Royal The fact he could leave for nothing at the end of the season can have a bearing on these things. As can Watford's financial situation.
It is certainly worth taking into consideration.

RoyalBlueDeathySuper_horns Rodgers still wants Smithy it seems but would your chairman be prepared to pay 1.8 million for a guy out of contract next summer?

It's more of a case of is that much money available for players, let alone just the one? I don't think it is. Times are a lot harder here than many seem to think. I'd be delighted if we actually had £1.5m as a transfer budget this summer.
Smith is a terrific player at this level, and is a good age. But he isn't worth £1.8m with 12 months left on his contract. £1m would be good business IMO.
What relevance how long his contract has left to run?!
As with everything else in this world, his current worth is what someone else is prepared to pay for him!

Harpers So Solid Crew Buying Smith for 1.8m would be an investment, it is up to the club to decide if it is a good investment, if he came on a 4 year deal, scored 30 goals and we went up we would say we did good, if he then bombed in the prem, but we got the money back from a champ side, we would still have done good.

Super_horns Priskin would be interested in joining you (or rather working with Rodgers again)
Guess its not great surprise after the confidence Rodgers gave him to improve.

Maybe it can have a bearing on these things but the fact that a club is reported to have bid £1.8M for Smith's services would suggest that neither the fact that he could leave at the end of this season nor Watford's financial situation is having much of an effect on this occasion. That being the case, it seems pretty futile taking it into consideration!! Hence the fact that we seem unlikely to secure a player that Rodgers appeared very keen to sign.

Royal Lady Weren't we always told by Mr Mad that the money was available if Copps wanted to buy a player? If Smith goes to, Sheff Utd for £1.8 mill and we offered, in comparison, a derisory £750k, that more than backs up my previous comments on this subject, that although "there is money available" it is never enough!

They bid £600k more than they think he's worth, AFTER we offered 750k? Why wouldn't they just bid what they think he's worth and then up it if someone came in higher?Ian RoyalRoyal Lady Weren't we always told by Mr Mad that the money was available if Copps wanted to buy a player? We've been told that by Coppell as well. And it's been demonstrated by some of our failed bids and other things that have since come out.
Maybe we just don't think he's worth that. And by we, for all any of us know that includes Rodgers. Just because someone else wants to spend over the odds for him doesn't mean we'll follow suit.
We'll pay what we think he's worth and if someone else has bid significantly above that, we'd be entirely right to go looking elsewhere. If we think he is worth it, I'd expect a further bid from us. Given he's worked with Rodgers fairly well, we'd have a very good chance of winning against another team.
In fact that may be why that other team has bid so much. They may think he is only worth £1.2m say, but to have a chance of getting him they have to pay higher than we would be prepared to bid. Watford are unlikely to accept less than £1.8m now someone has bid it.
