West Stand Man There is no harm in a few egos in any team, so long as the manager, coaches and team captain are strong enough to handle them effectively. One rather hopes that years of massaging developing youth egos in the academies has helped BR to develop his strength of character and his leadership.

Big ask to 'handle' a loan player. You've got no real sanctions you can take against him and he knows his future is elsewhere so why should he care.
I don't want to blacken this player's name, as I say he could be fine but it would be a shame to see the wrong players come in and disrupt things.

You have got sanctions by terminating the loan early. As a manager I'd certainly be interested in the history of any player I was bringing into a club and black marks causing another manager to terminate a loan isn't going to be healthy for a player.

Brendan also knows the younger players at Chelsea and so would know what he is likely to get with Mancienne in terms of personality etc. therefore any Chelsea youngster we take shouldn't be a risk off the field.

Has Joey Barton got any black marks ? Doesn't seem to have harmed his ability to get another club ?

I suspect that it has. I don't think that Man Utd (and a few others) would touch him, so he has been slightly limited in his choice of club to approach. You are, however, right in asserting that there is always someone out there who will take a risk.

A mate of mine at a local rag in the midlands says Wolves are planning a season long long loan for the defender.

Rodger's winked at the mention of Mancienne.
He said "We'll see..." but then winked to the journalist.

BBC gossip page today:

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is ready to let defender Michael Mancienne join newly-promoted Wolves on a 12-month loan deal. (Various)

I'd like to come up with a reason why he (and Chelsea) might prefer him to have a season loan at RFC rather than Wolves, but am struggling.

Maybe everyone at Chelsea who worked with Rodgers reckon he'd be better for Mancienne's development than McCarthy... maybe he'd be likely to start more games at Reading than Wolves...

Pretty weak case I'd say - it's just that Rodgers seemed very confident in the Press Conference that unnamed players would be coming here from Chelsea in the next few days. (The strong inference was certainly there that Mancianne might be one of those.)

Looks likely Mancienne is going to Wolves on a season long loan.

Wooo, as brought to you before it even went to local press in the midlands. Now I just need Reading to bid for some players up that way so I can get some more kudos. :|

Think he'd be barking not to go to a club he is already familiar with at a higher division.
