Not Smith. Preferably Pearce, wouldn't say no to Ingi, Gunnar or Harps. Or even Tabb.

interesting to see that Rodgers said that Pearce is a future Reading captain,
does that mean not for now?

Earlier, Dirk Gently I'm convinced it'll be Tabb - at least until Pearce is old enough and sure to be a regular starter - then it's his for as long as he's here.

wearing a collar like that, he could've been the jester

in fact, Ivar would've been the Juggler

Whilst Pearce would've ate the fire

silly kit, embarressing collar

Matejovski looked good in it tho'

Brynjar is a fantastic ambassador for our club and will be a vital member of the squad in terms of bringing through the younger less experienced players but he's quite a shy and retiring guy and can't see him being an on the pitch leader. He'd step up to any job given to him but personally think he'd be far more suited to an off-pitch club captaincy. Still think he'll be a vital player when coming off the bench to set up/score winning goals - legend.

Out of the rest of the squad, Ivar is the most obvious for me, Tabb isn't a certainty in the team and I don't feel he's fully settled into the club yet.

With the riches we have at our disposal (albeit rather inexperienced overall) and the transition under new management, I don't think anyone is a certainty to start just yet. There are alternatives everywhere.

In interview Rodgers said he wanted the captain to be a certain starter as he didn't believe in having a captain who didn't play. I really don't know who that might be but I'm sure Rodgers will make his own mind up in the near future, possibly without reference to our poll.

I bet he's a lot more vocal on the pitch than he is off it so I think you've got it the wrong way round.

Being the club captain involves a lot of putting yourself about and being a figure head within the squad and the club. It's far more demanding on a 'shy and retiring guy' than being the voice on the pitch.

He won't be playing much anyway, so I think we can rule him out.

I'd like to see Rosenior made captain if only to watch this board explode with fury.

Well who knows he may return, judging by the other thread.

Our New Captain

by Glen Little's Nose » 27 Jul 2009 13:57

I reckon Team Captain will be Ivar with Brynjar as Club Captain and filling in for Ivar till he is fit again.

Third choice will be Alex Pearce.

I think Brynjar will be first choice in midfield this season.

But Rodgers has also said that his Captain will need to be someone who's sure of starting every single match - just can't see that with Brynar, I'm afraid.

Royalee Pearce long term without a shadow of doubt and I'd be tempted to give it to him now.

I go along with that...
