You need to ask Darren Caskey's Dietician.

Is the question was he fat, or was he too fat to play football?

He was fat, but not too fat to play football.

Yes he was fat. The picture you have of him there is a season or two too early. I remember him coming on in the playoff semi at Wigan and barely managing to stick a leg out as an opposition midfielder sprinted past him. I laughed so much I almost forgot to hurl abuse at him.

In that moment I really understood Pardew's reticence to play him in central midfield over Jones and Parkinson etc.

Still, though, a fantastic player and a joy to watch at his best.

Was that picture taken before they put the seats in the Mad Stad?
Must have been early 1998.

Summer. Look at the shirt, we didn't play in that until the 1998/9 season. So therefore it was a pre-season photo shoot.

Early days, no. But his favour to booze it and eat crap was a big reason Spurs let us have him in the first place.

He went downhill from there. If he'd kept in shape, god knows how good he could have become, but instead, he let me change his diet to beer and pukka pies, with a whole death by chocolate for desert, and the rest was history.

Those colours were not Reading colours, so that evidence is inadmissible.

Certainly one of the fattest footballers I've seen.

Ranks alongside Ruddock and Molby.

Fat is a ridiculous word to describe a professional footballer. Overweight maybe, but still 10 times fitter than anyone on this forum.

This has no doubt been posted and reposted countless times, but I think it's worth repeating the England U-18 team who won the 1993 Youth Cup-
Chris Day - Gary Neville, Darren Caskey, Chris Casper, Kevin Sharp, Sol Campbell, Mark Tinkler,
Kevin Gallen (71' Noel Whelan), Paul Scholes, Robbie Fowler, Julian Joachim

Young, not-yet-fat Daz captained and scored the only goal (kept Nicky Butt on the bench, too). If ending up with us during our late 90s mire isn't pissing it all away by comparison, I don't know what is. And he clearly ended up fatter than anyone else in that team.

No he wasn't really fat - he was just quite fat. Neil Ruddock - now, there was a man was/is really fat.
