SteveRoyal What does age have to do with it?
If the players are good enough, they're good enough.

Southampton took us to the cleaners at the MadStad, some excellent players, but they went down
because they were too young a squad. A sprinkling of youngsters is great for their energy and
optimism but you can't (or it's very, very rare) win with a really young squad.

As I posted, "Fergusson's kids" actually had an average age on the pitch of 27+

SteveRoyal They might be inexperienced but that's what the old heads are for. We don't need millions of oldies just to even out the average age of our squad.

I don't think managers add older players just to make the average age over a certain figure!

They add the oldies for their experience and that happens to up the average age.

The youngest squad in the Championsip last year was Saints. How did they do?

What was the average age of Wolverhampton. Birmingham, Sheffield United and Burnley?

Ingi in defence, and Armstrong are level headed enough and experienced enough at the back.
Harper, Matejovsky, Tabb(?) and Gunarsson are all experienced enough in the middle.
N Hunt is experienced enough up front, hopefully joined by another striker.

No worries.

If Armstrong plays, if not we will have two 20-year olds in defence, which might be OK as long as the CB we bring in is older/more experienced.

Ingi is still out injured, will be for a fair few games?

Interesting to see S Hunt left out.
Does that mean he's out looking for another club?
Maybe we should make a brochure for him, like this.

Clodagh once again reiterating that he's looking for another 2-3 players before the window closes, so we can't really be sure what the seniority of the squad is till it's complete.

It's a pretty easy assumption to make

So now that we know who is going to Sweden, who will be in the team to play against Bromley on Thursday? Just boys?

Wycombe Royal 5 defenders in the squad.

Shows how desperately we need more defenders. And one of those in suspended for the first four matches (assuming he hasn't been sold by then).

That was my first reaction when I saw the squad that is going over. Looks like we need 3 more for starters as I really dont want to go into a season with square pegs in round holes.

Even if Hunt does not have nay where to go why on earth would BR take him to Sweden to spoil team morale?

Much better to send him home until some desperate PL club bid for him.

3 of which are full-backs.
We need Ingi to be fit, and to get 2 centre-backs.
Or quickly develop one in the academy.

We'll have 8 in the squad once Bikey, Ingimarsson and Kelly are back so I don't see the problem.

Bikey is one of the five.

So our specialist defenders are:

Ingimarsson (CB) - injured
Bikey (CB) - suspended 4 games
Pearce (CB)
Kelly (R/LB) - inexperienced and young, needs a spell on loan
Rosenior (RB)
Armstrong (LB)
Bertrand (LB)

With Cisse arguably capable of playing at the back.

I'd argue we need either a short term experienced CB on loan for the first few games, or to shift Bikey and bring in a quality replacement.

I don't rate Rosenior either, so I'd like to see Kelly go out on loan and a new quality RB come in too.

Fair enough I should have read properly, we're still not as short as people make out though and we've got cover. I'd like to see a right back brought in for Rosenior though like most people.

The squad we currently have will struggle in this division.
We dont have goals in us, no way do we. We lack defensive players which is completley obvious.
If we can get another CB, creative midfielder & a DECENT 20+ goal scorer, we could be OK.

The peeps on here who think Church/Long are good enough to lead our line are hilarious.

By the looks of it, Cisse will be a centre back next season. And I believe that's his best position.

As long as it keeps him out of midfield.

But surely we should have a specialist CB, rather than a make-up midfielder/CB.
We just need another bod in the mix, simples.
