Aside of how good/not good people think we are, and not that this should be any reason to be optimistic, but there has never been a better time to play Newcastle away. Look at their team.

Harper
Simpson Taylor S. Coloccini Enrique
Taylor R. Smith (c) Barton Gutierrez
Carroll Nolan
Subs: Krul Kadar Tozer Geremi Ameobi LuaLua Ranger

Manager - Chris Hughton

I would go as far as saying that we have a far stronger squad than them as things stand. Alan Smith/Joey Barton in midfield is pretty good for this league but they look weak at the back.

I have read a lot of guff from pundits predicting Newcastle to struggle at the bottom of the division, but for as long as they have the likes of Duff, Nolan, Barton and the two Taylors they will have far too much for the likes of Reading.

+1, we have very, very little chance of a win. They have massive superiority in terms of class on the pitch and it will be an emotional home game in front of a big crowd, going for a 3-0 newcastle. We haven't got two hopes.

Duff wont be playing it appears, Taylor has his mind on other clubs and the Spanish/Argentinian contingent havent exactly set the world alight at all. The 'big' crowd at the Toon appears to be reported only around 30,000 out of a capacity of 52,000 , so with the stadium designed as it is i cant see if being that vocal. Im not denying its a tough start away from home but i still think we are playing them at a good time and to write us off already is a bit unfair- 1-1.

3-3

A 2-0 loss to Swansea on 17 January is Reading's only defeat in their last 16 away league matches.

Now that is a good record.

1-1 written all over it, hopefully I`m wrong and we sneak an away win, its still a tough place to go whatever league Newcastle are in. Another encouraging performance by the youngsters though, Noel Hunt to score.

Great time to play the fading geordie nearly-giants, club in disaray, doesn't know where it is going, they will be like headless chuicken running around trying to please thier hoards of fans. A pacey controlled performance should see us on the coach home with all three points.

0-2

This could go one of two ways - early Newcastle goal, youngsters freeze - 5-0, or..

0-0 at half time, fans on Newcastle's back - 0-1

On balance, i'm going with the 5-0.

So basically, either team could win it..or it could be a draw?

Not really - massive Newcastle win or small Reading win.

I'm positive on what will happen during the season, and I'm an optimist. However I do think we'll lose today. It will be a solid enough performance with us having some good chances and spurning them. We'll concede with 15 minutes to go however and despite a top performance we will end up with nothing. Reading fans will be left disappointed, but optimistic after the game, and the national press will forget we were even playing. Newcastle will get above their station but go on a 5 game winless run.

Final score,

Newcastle 1-0 Reading

Carroll 78'

Why would anyone predict 5-0? That's crazy. Even if you're totally outplayed you rarely lose by that many.

I don't think we'll win but Newcastle really aren't as good as you're all making out.

Shane is 3.8 on betfair to score first goal. I'd be surprised if anyone took a bet that low tbh. :|

I don't think it will be 5-0 but I just can't see the likes of Newcastle rolling over to a team like ours. Added to that it will be first time in a televised match for a number of our young players, against a big club, lots of expectation at Newcastle etc etc so I really can see us losing by 2 or 3 goals.

Royal Lady I'd be amazed but overjoyed if we got anything out of this - I reckon we'll lose 2 or 3 to nil.

Maguire Newcastle 2-0 Royals

Outclassed and outpassed. First murmurings of discontent from the HNA massive and calls for "more experience" in the side.

Spot on. Apart from the number of goals.
