Reserves do their bit for the pitch!

Interesting to see that the first Reserves home game is in February with all the others away until then.

I reckon BR is trying to protect the pitch.

Would appear so. Be better to play our home games at Hogwood though, or at least half of them? From February that pitch now has to contend with our games, rugby and then a whole half season of home fixtures for the reserves. That's quite a test in itself, good weather or not.

League rules would not permit regular reserve games at Hogwood although it might be possible in an emergency.
Using the Madstad gives proper fans the chance to see the younger players and assess their progress. That is why the better informed have been well aware of prospects coming through rather than asking for loads of expensive signings.

I thought in recent years we've played reserve fixtures away from the Madejski Stadium?

Sent a response but it disappeared in the ether! When we were in the Premier Reserve League grounds were expected to be Conference standard or above. The current league requires lesser standards but playing a home season behind closed doors would unlikely to be sanctioned.

That is interesting. What are the rules about where they play reserve games and what would have to be done to Hogwood to make it ok?

Not seen the current rules for the Totesport Reserve League but normally admission should be available to the public which is not the case at Hogwood. Pitch would also need to be fenced which would comply as the Youth League games are staged there. This year we have been switched to the Wales & West division. Checking through the fixtures Bournemouth, Bristol City, Exeter, Plymouth, Reading, Salisbury & Forest Green are using their main grounds. However Southampton are using Staplewood FC, Swindon - Hungerford Town and Swansea - Neath RFC!
