Ideal
I was there at Elm Park
Ideal Who is going to provide any sort of width in that formation then, cmonurz? Shall we play everything through the centre? Right onto the head of their central defenders, while our smallish strikers fail to compete for headers?
Who is going to provide any sort of defensive duties out wide?

Obviously fielding four central midfielders is not a good idea.

The width should come from the full backs

Oh, you mean for example Rosenior, who is already struggling to cover defensively in 4-4-2? Obviously this would not work in the real world.

What Elm Park said - I like the formation because it is fluid; Nicky Forster was a winger/attacker who would tuck in a bit, and Murty over-lapping was one of our biggest attacking threats back in the day. We know Rosenior is decent going forward, so should utilise that, behind which the centre-back and defensive midfielder covers.

Either:
Federici; Rosenior, Cisse, Pearce, Bertrand; Tabb, Davies, Matejovsky; Robson-Kanu, Hunt, Long (4-3-3)

or:

Federici; Rosenior, Cisse, Pearce, Bertrand; Karacan, Davies, Robson-Kanu, Matejovsky; Long, Hunt (4-4-2 diamond)

If you've only got smallish strikers, there's not as much value in getting the ball out wide.

Depends on what you do with it once it's there.

No wide players = licence for oppo full backs to get forward and overlap their wingers. Our full backs can't cope with two players to mark.

So far we have had suggestions of playing a Watford player and someone who is suspended. Keep up the good work lads.

if he plays the same team as saturday and we get nothing ,then i'd wait until the barnsley cup game . if we give them a good thrashing , then i'd be sure ( cos i think it now ,anyway ) that the cup(reserve?) team is better !
if i could choose the team i'd go

fed
ros ---mills --- pearce ---- bertrand
henry ---marek ---cisse/karacan--- davies--- kebe/tabb
Big Nick

my prediction , if we pick same teamas sat is 0-0

what are are full options on right and left attackingmid / wingers ?
do we have any proper left footed , left sided wingers????

All this talk about 433 and players interchanging is baffling me, as so far it's looked a very rigid 451.

HRK and church dont really do it for me either as alternatives!

i too would be tempted to put davies on one of the wings, but that could be a bit desperate

Robson-Kanu and Davies are far better on the wings than Kebe and Henry.

HRK has been effetcive in spurts-but ive still not seen much more end product.

and davies has certainly looked the most effective of our offensive midfielders
been really impressed with him in particular.

personally id like to try berty up there with armstrong behind

That's not a bad shout either, but I think Davies deserves to keep his place and R-K deserves a chance. Kebe should be reprimanded and stuck in the reserves for the foreseeable future after some of his gutless performances though - we've had to carry him as he contributes absolutely nothing. He backs out of everything and produces absolutely no end product.

I don't normally post on "team for" threads, but I really really want to see Mills in central defence for Cisse, and Robson-Kanu in for Church because neither of these players are showing that they are worthy of their place. So therefore:

GK: Federici

RB: Rosenior
LB: Bertrand
CB Pearce
CB Mills

DCM: Karacan
CM: Tabb
CM: Davies

RW: Robson-Kanu
LW: Kebe
CF: Long

After the performance at St James Park, we looked really lightweight in the centre of Midfield, and to be honest we could do with bringing in someone with a bit of bite!

Team I would play is:

Federici

Rosenior (Sorry, he had a shocker on saturday I will agree, but how many players played well...?)
Pearce
Mills
Bertrand

Karacan
Harper
Gunnarsson

N.Hunt
Kebe
Hal Robson - Kanu

Hunt instead of Long and then you've got it. However, let's have Davies down the right and Robson - Kanu down the left rather than this business of both wide men playing on the "wrong" side.

NHunt is due a start and will add alot to us going forward. Hopefully see Armstrong get back in the team as well, afterall, he was out player of the season last season! Also, give Mills a run out.
