floyd__streete Well, who would have thought it - the team who sold £6.5 million worth of their best forward in the summer and spent precisely £0 on replacing him manage 1 shot on target and no goals in their first two games?

Newcastle.........Reading
7....Shots On Target....4
9....Shots Off Target....6
7....Fouls (Conceded)....7
11........Corners.........9
3.......Yellow Cards......0
0........Red Cards........0

4 Shots on Target?

According to one of the papers in the What The Papers Say thread. I remember Pearce's header and shot on target from Kanu.

All the papers plus the BEEB and Premium TV get their stats and text updates from the same source; the Press Association. The Press Association via their subsidiary PA Sports is also responsible for the Actim stats brand.

The "official" shots on target would appear to be:

7:06
Corner taken right-footed by Scott Davies, Alex Pearce takes a shot. Save by Steve Harper.
25:18
Drilled right-footed shot by Scott Davies. Steven Taylor gets a block in.
64:27
The ball is delivered by Liam Rosenior, save by Steve Harper.
85:07
Shot by Hal Robson-Kanu. Save made by Steve Harper.

I remember only one shot, can't even remember who it was by, that was yards wide - certai nly not "on target" by any stretch of the imagination. You have to remember that half these hacks who report on games weren't even there!

Second half an absolute non-event as far as I am concerned, Newcastle completely owned us and it was bordering on child abuse. However, there are positives to be taken away - I met Mick Gooding and had a right old smash up in Newcastle last night.

I've waited all day for you to have a rant and this is the best you can come up with? Booooo.

Quite, that's why they just rehash the stuff they get from the Press Association, TBF that's nearly as true of most serious news stories as it is of sports stories nowadays.

I just love it when the PA cocks up and they all reproduce the same mistake.

Jerry St Clair Can't ever remember going to a Reading game attended by 36k and the ground feeling empty. Really bizarre atmosphere. I think a few teams will go to St James's and pick up points this season. It's about as intimidating as my gran's sheltered housing, whatever the press have you believe.

As for Reading, this team is the very definition of inexperienced. We clearly have a lot of players with natural ability, but they were out-thought by Newcastle and just lack that streetwise attitude. Oh, and a decent forward.

And, finally, new season same old wakners following Reading away. People Sitting in the back row and demanding that people in front of them sit down. I really don't think other clubs have such ignorant tossers like this following them.

I'm fairly sure that most clubs have ignorant tossers who insist on standing in front of other people to ensure that their enjoyment of the game is ruined.

If they tell you to sit down tell em to oxf*rd off

i got told to sit down before the players even came out to train

When it's unreserved seating, I fail to see why anyone who wishes to sit would choose to sit right at the back. It's obvious that people who wish to stand will stand at the back.

Despite the 'cocks' we did in fact manage to find somewhere else and stand for the whole game. The lovely stewards didn't say a word.

Old Biscuitman When did Newcastle last win a league game by 3-0 or better?

I'm sure you know the answer to this, but for those who don't, it was also against us the last time we played Newcastle at St. James's Park.

When was the last time Reading lost by more than 2 goals in a championship game?

Why does it matter? This is practically a new team anyway.

This attitude is incredible...YOU'RE AT A FOOTBALL MATCH, NOT THE FCUKING THEATRE!!
If everybody stood... a) a better atmosphere created,
b) no-one would get in anyone's way
Simple really.
Go on, exercise those ageing, arthritic legs and get on your feet!

I am all tuckered out today after a heavy night on the Smirnoff Ices dancing to Bonny Tyler. Besides, I had a 25 minute teleconference with Alan Partridge right after the game in which we ironed out the rights-and-very-many-wrongs of this particular football match; we really should make these calls available to download as a Pod Cast or something.

On the subject of our mute fans - a good many of whom seem less capable of standing than Douglas Bader - I do have to wonder why someone would travel many hundreds of miles in which to watch a football match being broadcast on television only to utterly fail to interact with the experience.

I used to pay a couple of quid to stand at Elm Park, I don't pay £22 to stand. I pay £22 to sit. Because you prefer to stand that makes me a cock apparently. Because you can't accept that different people have different preferences that makes you a bigger cock.

Thank goodness i spent the weekend up there! I may have been feeling absolutely minging but i really can't recall four shots on target, at least i had more than four shots myself!!!

1st half was ok, thought we may of deserved to go in level but the 2nd half had about much idea as i did at 3am in the morning. How one of the previous posters said the 2nd goal was just a quality cross beggars belief. No tackle for a good couple of minutes, there you go lads take your time, we won't worry you and Bob's your uncle. Right side is a worry as Robson Kanu and Church don't look ideal there at the moment, i would suggest pushing Armstrong or Bertrand move up there if we didn't crossover our wingers. Won't be at Swansea but i dread to think how we'll score against Sheff U if we haven't done it come Tuesday.

On the point of the standing/seating, why didn't you just move? Plenty of seats to choose from and i happily stood up... when i could be botered to make the effort. Haven't been that hungover at a game for a while!

in summary, cos this thread has more tangents going for it than european political undercurrents in 1913;

- we reeeeeeally need a goalscorer.
- kids are great, but theyre a bit wet behind the ears. but dont go forgetting children are our future (teach them well and let them lead the way...etc)
- newcastle is a considerably better night out than it is an afternoon spent watching jimmy kebe, who is yet to inspire creedence to the use of the words 'professional athlete' on his residency permit.
- our fans need to be segregated at away matches.
- shola ameobi has finally found a level that doesnt make him look like jimmy kebe.
- two games and, to all extents, a cup bye in to the new season and im no happier than i was after burnley decided to plonk wondergoals and mar USAs farewell.

call me fat. but dont you dare call me negative.
