Scarface It's absolutely crazy to only have 3 recognised center backs in the squad, so I'm sure Rodgers will now to look replace Bikey. This is a massive loss to us as he's the only defender with geninue quality and pace, I agree with an earlier post that this season could be a relegation battle.

I'm going to stick a fiver on us to go down later.

Name the centre backs we had available in 2005/6, then compare.

Scarface was delighted when we signed Sodje but has been negative about everything ever since.

true in a way however it just shows the tightrope that we were walking then if one or both of sonko/ingi were injured for a sustained period. In the end we got lucky with long term injuries that season but clearly Ingi and Sonko had forged a good understanding and partnership by then which cannot be said of our current CB's yet.

Bikey was looking quite solid alongside Ivar until he got injured, it will be a great shame he goes as im not convinced that when Ivar returns he will be ready to face the rigours of 46plus games. Cisse can do a job there fine, but his level of consistency is ever changing in that position and i feel he offers more in the middle. The fact of the matter though is that we simply cant offer premiership football to Andre.

I would be tempted to get another CB in perhaps on loan but it may well end up being a Jack Cork type youngster which i think is counter productive. Whilst im really enjoying the new young ethos at RFC we are in real need of a couple of more experienced faces before the deadline slams shut.

Bikey was never an automatic choice so i'm not that bothered, plus he looked awful when he made his cameo against Chelsea. Although I actually am a big Bikey fan, £2.8m is a good fee for a mental person.

Scarface, (rubbish film by the way, way over rated, similar to Marek) Did you not see that Mills has been signed and he is meant to have the quality that you require

Well it looks like the Bikey monster is the next star asset to leave with the Burnley signing apparently imminent.
Would like to see him stay despite his ridiculous drama queen performances every so often.
At his best the outstanding defender at this club.
At his worst...a bit of a cartoon.
All in all though he has been good value Brian.

bye bye BK.

A player who could have been so much more to us, but making money on him is a good outcome.

It's only a good outcome for the Madman's wallet. RFC won't benefit apart from a few token signings and then bo****ks when the Madman says this shows our determination to reach the Premiership.

It's about time he buggered off having raped the club of all it's assets.

Real Facts. Real World.

I am actually getting quite worried now. 6.5m for Doyle, 3m for Hunt, 1.5 or whatever sell on for Cox, now 2.8 - 3m for Bikey and whatever we get for Harper (2m?). Thats the best part of 16m raised and just 2m spent. No experience left (Ingi?) and no goal threat.

Bikey was a loon, but at this level is a star.

Somebody cheer me up?

We still have N Hunt!
And Gunnarsson. And Matejovsky.
Oh, and a heck of a lot of raw talent.

The club has a long-term plan it is working to.

It has generated a crop of young players who, although lacking experience, have shown great talent, and received rave reviews, during a variety of loan assignments.

It has now recruited a manager who, of all the young coaches in the country, has possibly the best reputation for working with young inexperienced players, evidenced by the rave reviews and great reputation he quickly established at Chelsea.

The club knows it cannot compete by spending big sums on transfer fees so it has decided to give youth its chance and see what happens. By doing this it will save considerable amounts of money against many of the other clubs it is competing with - if it doesn't work, then fine, it will spend a bit on more experienced players, both as loanees and permanent signings later in the season.

It feels that the future of a small club like ours, which does not have a billionaire benefactor, is all about its Academy; but if that is to truly succeed, it has to gain a reputation as a hotbed for the 2nd tier of British talent (those will not get given lucrative contracts by the Big 5 clubs on their 16th birthday) and the only way to achieve that reputation is to give the ones we've got at the moment a chance by playing them. Some experienced heads are needed but not so many that the progress and development of the young players is compromised / blocked as the whole plan would fall apart before it's given a chance. There's a balance to strike as it were, and you can be sure that the Chairman and Manager understand that, but the proper balance may not be acheived until later in the season.

It may not work perfectly, it has its risks, but to my mind it is a plan that has far more going for it than against. The club needs some balls and faith in all concerned to see it through - the supporters need to do their bit by getting and staying behind the team rather than whinging after 2 games, which is, frankly, pathetic.

Well, that's my take on it - cheered up a bit?

So its a rumour that the club have a long term plan then  . I don't see a spine in the current side and I think that certain young players, Pearce in particular, have been massively over hyped for what they have produced on the pitch either on loan or with us. Rodgers worked with the existing Watford players plus 3 premier league youth loanees, I think that is a big difference from is happening at Reading where we have players like Rosenior and Kebe who will never get above the average. Are Tabb and Gunnarsson (Harper appears surplus if he is going to Wolves) as the only players with championship experience, that to me is a bridge too far. I really hate to have to say it but if there aren't some major changes between now and the close of the window we will be lucky to stay in this division as we don't look like scoring, we self destruct in defence, and the majority of our players cannot play the expected style when put under pressure.

As to Bikey - no great loss if he goes but we need more championship experience to be brought in for the money received

After 2 games.

Priceless.
