Dirk Gently
IMAMATEOFJOVSKY Equally does he want to be at a club that thinks he isnt worth that much?? and have grudgingly had to pay more than they really want to?? - if Sheffield was down South , he'd be there now!

Nope - if BR was manager of Sheffield, he'd be there now!

So him saying he wanted to remain in the South for the sake of his kids' schooling was bollox then?

Also, if Watford haven't even accepted our bid for him yet (or hadn't til this afternoon) - what happens if Smith not happy with the wages we're offering - as surely that won't have been discussed yet, unless BR had tapped him up already of course....

Rodgers knows what he is on at Watford so i think he would have told the club what to expect when he comes in for talks....

Its all down to watford now if they want to sell to Reading or cut their nose off to spite their face and hope for someone else to come in for him.

To which he could reject meaning Watford are stuffed and risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season

Smith has turned down moves to Wolves & Sheffield where he knows he'd get bigger pay packets. It seems money is not his prime motivation in his move.

No you are right - he wants to stay down South for the sake of his family ...its nothing to have a burning desire to play for Reading !

We may not be able to talk to Smith, but sure as hell we've talked to his agent...who then has talked to Smith. It's a mucky business is football.

But of course, Brendan knows what Tommy's on now, so it can hardly be a world away from what he'd be on for RFC...otherwise Hammond wouldn't even go there in the first instance. (You'd think...)

Just seen this on SSN. Great. One huge chase could amount to nothing.

3 weeks? We've been chasing him for over 2 months!!

Well about 3 weeks of actually putting in a slightly decent bid that could have been accepted, 'cos lets be honest, the first few bids were never going to cut it! But do pompey actually have any cash to spend atm?

We've not been chasing him - we've been tight arsed with it, and if he decides that Pompey are a better option then fair play to him - it shows that clubs value him and are preapred to pay what his pitch value is worth, unlike us!
