Physical presence up-front

by PEARCEY » 22 Aug 2009 17:09

I dont care who it is but Rodgers buy some-one up-front with a bit of devil in him and preferably capable of holding up the ball.
Do it next week please.
Thanks then.

Smith doesn't have a physical presence. We're screwed.

The trouble is we need some-one big because we are not putting any pressure on the opposition keepers...with the midfielders trying eye of the needle through balls to our strikers. Its just not working and we need other options, ie crosses in the box to a big centre-forward. There is no plan B.

He has to be given a decent chance Ideal. You cannot sack him after four matches but he has got to look at the formation, tactics and personnel. Wed have to become more physical and get a cutting edge from somewhere. I'm also worried by the way both Newcastle and Sheff Utd have managed to stretch us so easily.

People on here LOL at Dele Adebola, but I would love to see him upfront for us..

An ugly, big bastard up front is what Reading need. Preferably black

I would want someone with a bit more skill than Adebola to be fair....but with his physical presence definitely.

But don't we have Shane Long? Isn't he a full Irish International? Isn't his goalscoring record second to none?

Totally agree with your thinking Pearcy. Longs first touch is awful and when he does get a chance to hold the ball up he looks to play a first touch pass which goes wrong.

I thought Henderson did a great job up front for Sheffield Utd today as does Jay Boothroyd for Cardiff.

Agreed and you have to wonder why Swansea stayed up too.

Swansea had a big man up-front who was a physical presence, could hold the ball up and had an eye for goal...Jason Scotland.
Jordi Gomez was their Marek Matejovsky

Ideal
PEARCEY he has got to look at the formation, tactics and personnel

1) Rogers is the manager, he has a say in who gets sold, who gets brought in. We could have kept more of the experienced ones we sold.
2) Rogers is the manager, he can decide he wants to strengthen this and that part of the team. We have millions to spend, Madejski has never refused any of our managers money to spend. Many many years ago we spent ca. 1 million pounds on Carl Asaba FFS, I am 100% percent certain there are millions of pounds available for the joke of a manager to spend on players should he decide to. YET THE MORON CLAIMS HE WON'T BOTHER REPLACING JAMES HARPER IF HE IS SOLD.
3) Rogers is the manager, he selects who plays and who does not play. It is up to him to select the best 11 to start, and it is up to him to ensure they are sufficiently motivated. If those he selects does not perform, it is by definition ROGERS FAULT.
4) Rogers is the manager, he decides which tactic we should play. If the tactics are INEPT, HOPELESS, SCHOOLYARD tactics, then it is by definition HIS FAULT for PICKING THEM.

I'd read this and argue against it, but for someone to write a post like that without realising they've spelt "Rodgers" wrong doesn't deserve a decent come back.

This is now my expectation of him..

If we all hold onto his big book of tactics, that should stop us from sinking...
