Re: Disgrace - RFC pull out of Tommy Smith deal.

The whole thing is ridiculous. Smith is a proven goalscorere at this level and their best player. £1.8m or even £2m is a perfectly fair price and we should have just stumped up the money now. For that money we would get 3 or 4 good years, no problem.

It seems we are breeding ourselves to be a selling club - we only want to splash £2m (which we seem to have done with no issue at all on Mills) when we think we can sell that player on for more in the future. We are regressing as a club and need to stop this slide soon - I just don't know who will.

As for other transfer targets - we have a week left: that's not enough time to make the right choices rather than panic buys, and we would pay over the odds due to the lateness of the deals and the lack of a 3 month negotiation period for Hammond. So I predict no signings and a statement to the effect we only want the players that are right for Reading and we have a young and talented group blah-de-blah

FiNeRaIn LMAO thats a SCATHING attack on RFC- fair play to them. I liked this bit.

"Given that the evidence available to us suggests that Brendan covets the player and Reading have netted circa £11m with the sales of Doyle, Hunt and Bikey - not to mention the huge wage savings that go with that, I have to say I was surprised when they said that they were no longer interested in signing Tommy because of a clause that is commonplace in transfers today."

Basically saying " you have money so don't pretend you don't, stop bothering us with terrible offers". Fair play to that whole article and the way we have gone about things has been embarassing.

'greed.

last 3 years premiership payments + parachute payments (they never should have been parachute payments as we should never have gone down with a bit of invsetment) £100m, spent £10m.

With the greatest of respect to Madejski who has been our saviour at times, that is fuking tight.

So TS is considered not to be good value at the asking price and we are closing in on other targets. Does this mean RFC are about to sign a young, talented asset, whom will help to generate shirt sale revenues around the world, like a "Ronaldo or Beckham" type figure? Its surely the only way that the "value for money" argument holds up, isn't it? :)

Without wanting to attack or defend anyone as I do not know, who on here was actually at any of the meetings and can honestly say they know exactly what was discussed? Why are we to just accept what Watford have had to say is absolutely true?

Over the last few years it has become apparent to Watford supporters that very little that comes out of the mouth of Mr Russo can be trusted, yet bizarrely Reading FC fans are quite happy to take his rant about how poorly our club has conducted business over Tommy Smith at face value. I guess these people conveniently forget the fact that on more than one occasion recently clubs and their Chairmen have commented on how it has been a pleasure dealing with RFC in transfer matters due to the straightforward and professional way in which we handle them.

I couldn't possibly know but it is far more likely that, in this particular case, Russo moved the goalposts once too often causing us to pull out.

But, curiously, it seems far more satisfying for many to believe that our own club is at fault.

Were the Doyle, Bikey and Hunt transfers cash up front of were they also a little bit now and the rest based on appearances, non relegation, winning the premiership, winning the champions league 3 times etc etc

Madstad to Nadderud Tommy Smith probably doesn't want to come here now anyway as Reading could be heading in the opposite direction to the Premiership.

If Tommy Smith didn't want to come here Watford would accept the bid and let Smith reject us as that would be the ultimate humiliation to Rodgers....
