Deathy Well to put this into some sort of perspective, Smith has a medical with Reading on Monday, it takes us 24 hours to iron out a contract for him and then Pompey come in. He goes to Pompey for a medical today (news on if he passed it, or it actually happened?) and still they don't have a signature. Thankfully there is still only the two nids in for him, and it could now go either way with Pompey apparently now having billionaire ownership... Suddenly Pompey may have bigger fish to buy.

Tune in tomorrow.

According to SSN the medical is tomorrow morning not today.

Kitson12
Basingstoke Royal Pompey fans are hopeful that the takeover will stop the Tommy Smith move going through.

There is also talk that Paul Hart has been/or will be sacked as will Peter Storrie.

This could throw a big fat spanner in the works.

From Smiths point of view - would you want to join a club that has four strikers already and will likely be signing big names which will all be ahead of him in the pecking order.

surely this transfer cant have another twist......

LOL if this does happen!

Then he'll be Tommy "I could have been a premiership footballer don't you know" Smith.

I wonder if a 3rd club will come in at the 11th hour? I would not be too surprised if the window closes and TS is still at Watford!

EXCLUSIVE - Smith snubs Royals
by Anthony Smith
Comments (1) | Print | Email

The one that got away: Tommy Smith looks set to sign for Portsmouth.

ROYALS have conceded defeat to Portsmouth in the race to sign Tommy Smith.

The 29-year-old Watford striker is poised to snub the Royals in favour of a move to Fratton Park.

The deal was cruelly snatched away from Reading at the very last minute after a fee of £1.8 million had been accepted by the Hornets.

But Pompey hijacked the move and Smith is now joining Paul Hart's Premier League outfit for a similar amount.

Royals director of football Nick Hammond told the Chronicle: "I think it's quite clear the deal has gone away from us now and Tommy will sign for Portsmouth.

"It's disappointing but there is nothing we can do about it."

Royals are now looking elsewhere and Hammond added: "Something could happen before the weekend."

For the full story plus all the latest Royals' news, buy Thursday's Chronicle.......

Rumours are rife that he's not having his medical at Pompey before tomorrow because he cannot find a doctor who is willing to give him a steroid injection in the knee so soon after the one he had to complete his medical with us on Monday.

He's crocked and is using the "my agents in America" excuse as a delay tactic.

Having read this from one of our match reports in the archive I believe we've found the player to replace the Smith deal

Sarr was nothing short of sensational again. The man oozes excitement. Every time he got the ball the ground was filled with anticipation. In the first half a great ball from Caskey found him on the edge of the area - instead of controlling the ball he tucked it and turned the defender in one. The defender was confused as anything leaving Sarr to bear down on the keeper. In the second half Sarr met a great long ball down the middle by scooping the ball out of the air on his right foot with perfect control. He really should have buried it but fired it wide of the 'Boro left side post. He is going to tuck a few away - but he's going to create hundreds.

Ahh Mass Sarr - for those that never saw him, he was the most gifted player ever to wear the hoops. The man was a genius, a GOD - the saviour of the TB1 and TB2 eras.

Think Ronaldo without the poncey-boy diving histrionics....

Then it went all pear shaped and Mass ended up in the same pie eating class as Darren Caskey.

Tragic waste of talent - he was really THAT good.
