Woodcote Royal This would be the same Nick Hammond who was being head hunted by Arsenal not long ago.

Polite question to you: if Hammond really was sought after by Arsenal, do you think he'd still be here now?

Royal Lady likes this.

Seriously, it would be a no-brainer. And the fact of the matter is, he's not AT Arsenal, has never been AT Arsenal and so Arsenal don't come into it.

You are aware he played for Arsenal, aren't you?

Vision Agree with all of that but do you really expect anything else. It's their job to try and sell the club to the fans. They're not going to shout from the rooftops that now we're relegated and there's a recession we've got to start again from scratch by using the mainly raw materials of the Academy. Also its not as if JM's "coat according to cloth" mantra shoudln't at least spell out the club's approach.

You and I seem to agree on pretty much everything but I think its Rodgers that probably should have excercised a bit more public caution in raising expectations of what was bound to be a young inexperienced squad. The club as befits a 21st Century business is always going to hype up it's intentions and possibilities.

We have a plan and a purpose but it's not one thats likely to attain top flight football in the short term. It is however one which given our size and the current economic climate makes sense from a financial position and has good long-teerm possibilities. It's also a plan in keeping with our size and resources given that the Chairman is no longer bankrolling us in the manner he did previously.

Again, we agree...but I guess deep down what I'm trying to say is that I wish folk wouldn't be so cringingly gullible and bloody whine so much when those fans are the ones that DO believe the hype and spin. We are going to lose to Barnsley. We are going to look like complete muppets to Newcastle and we can't expect the kids to win us things. We are in a new era of Reading FC. As I've written before, if anyone remembers my posts, *I* can accept these things, but just look how many on the board are kicking their toys out of the pram though. The club, whilst obviously don't read trifling things like this forum, need to be responsible for perception at least. It's those lads on the pitch that will get a caning from the fans, not the board. Getting booed week in week out because of a lack of investment, or a lack of anything that makes RFC seem 'professional' in its actions, because a lot of people either don't/can't understand or why we are in the place we're in.

Marketing is one thing. Deception (quite a strong word, I know) is another.

Polite questions for you

Was Rodgers head hunted by Chelsea?

Did Rodgers spend 5 years with Chelsea?

Does this make Rodgers a "Cock sucker" too?

in the capacity of Director of Football. he could have played for Real Madrid for all I care, doesn't make him any more qualified to be DoF.

We can be bigger than them anyway.

And if young Nigel says he's happy
He must be happy
He must be happy
He must be happy in his world

Idea for a Television series 'Howe Not 2' Nigel Howe and Nicky Hammond are outclassed in the transfer market by a Tredder lookalike Chairman and Fred Dineage.

I've always thought that 'behind closed doors' in messrs Hammond and Howe's offices is a bit like that clip in Extras where Gervais (rodgers) walks into the offices of Barry (Howe) and Merchant (Hammond) to find them cracking one off over apen.

'you having a vvank Nicky?'

I was trying to but it's like Piccadilly Circus in here'

wickedwhispers
wickedwhispers Why does the BBC site say Smith has signed for Palace then?!?!?!?

Why do you even try? Everyone knows there's little to no money in Palace at the moment. It's not even a 1 out of 10. It's not even a fail.

No, it's more like the scene where Gervais's character sarcastically suggests that Merchant's character "make sure the phone is left on the hook won't you". Merchant: "you joke, it was left unplugged for the whole week last week. Nobody noticed".
