Royal Rother If you need help working that one out then you'll have to find someone else prepared to spend the time. I'm out.

Ah, the old RR 'I'm totally superior in every way' bit.

If the Derby fans have been throwing abuse at Tyson, in a similar way that Cardiff fans gave abuse to Doobs, then why shouldn't he celebrate in front of them? As long as he doesn't go Cantona on them then I see no problem with it at all.

Tbh, Tyson is only 'stupid' because some grown adults a) can't handle it when their football team lose b) can't handle it when an opposition player enjoys beating their team and c) can't control their tempers. I know who I think are the real idiots in all of this.

It goes without saying that the fans who react aggressively to this sort of action are idiots, but then that's a description that fits a pretty big slice of football fans at any stadium in the country, isn't it?

Anyone who pokes the idiots by brandishing a club flag in their face after a tense victory in a local derby is equally deserving of the tag, as are those who find it amusing or appropriate imho. Whatever the provocation, inciteful behaviour by the players (which is what this amounts to) is totally out of order, not to say bloody dangerous. Players who do this sort of thing, thus sending the opposition fans out onto the street in a highly aggressive mood, should face a ban.

Well said, Rother. I would obviously never condone violence over football - life is too short eh? - but having seen a Rochdale player run the length of the away end to celebrate a penalty against Bury in the local derby at the weekend with the game already long since secured in his team's favour, perhaps one day a player inciting the crowd will get a punch in the face from a spectator to make professional footballers think twice about the billy big-b*ll*cks atttiude they so very often display.

How is it different to a player celebrating a goal by, say, cupping his ears to the opposition fans? - or putting his finger to his mouth to say "shhhhh" etc???

If he didn't have the flag in his hand would the Derby players still have started the ruck? - say he was just waving or doing the ear cup thingy instead!!!

If you people have a problem with a footballer waving a flag, I ask: Did you have a problem with that Bolton fan runing behind the goal waving a flag whenever Bolton scored?

Ok.....so it was the flags fault, not Tyson's???

Why does having a corner flag make a difference?

Hunt provocatively celebrated in front of the Barnsley fans. I still say waving the colours at you, derby rivals or not, isn't justification for violence. But then, there's little justification for violence. Therefore, the fans who react are more guilty.
