It's probably a lot more difficult to get a senior pro to come on a 'short term loan' like this than it is a promising youngster.
We definately needed another defender to cover, and as O'Dea is reasonably comfortable across the back four he offers quite a bit as an insurance policy.
By the sounds of it Ivar is stepping up his training too, although that's no guarantee that he'll be back quickly or sucessfully.
In the back of my mind is also the idea that Rodgers wants to bring in younger players to maintain his authority. Being a young inexperienced manager he might not feel as comfortable with the older, more experienced pro's as he is with the players still with a lot of learning ahead of them.
