I want Ambramovich to just give up and cut his losses. He's losing money left right and centre with his other business interests, and when the papers reported the top clubs and their profits, Chelsea's was something like -£8,000,000 whilst Liverpool and United were £40m's...

Just give up m8. Return Chelsea to the average top ten Premiership club they really are and let's all have a d.i.s.c.o

according to a radio report earlier the Lens owner said 2 years ago that if Chelsea continued to persue the player they could expect to get a transfer ban for 2 transfer windows and the player would get a 4 month ban

I'd rather Man Utd and Arsenal drop out of the top 4, I'll be having a disco.

exileinleeds Taken from the Chelsea site:-

Chelsea Football Club has issued the following statement:

Chelsea will mount the strongest appeal possible following the decision of FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber over Gaël Kakuta.

The sanctions are without precedent to this level and totally disproportionate to the alleged offence and the financial penalty imposed.

We cannot comment further until we receive the full written rationale for this extraordinarily arbitrary decision.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club.

Well, that's bollocks because SC Sion in Switzerland got exactly the same punishment for doing exactly the same thing.

Will this have any impact on our loan of Bertrand? Can Chelsea recall him at all, if they suddenly require cover?

Found it. In April 2007 Francis Collado (Lens Administrative Director) said

Francis Collado 'The player is under contract for two more years and, if a club is attracted, they have to contact us. 'If he is contacted when he's under contract and signs for another club, the risk is a six month suspension for the player and a year ban for signing players by the club. These are FIFA rules and there is no reason for them not to apply to Chelsea

Let's all laugh at Chelsea, let's all laugh at Chelsea na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na

For the record I'd like the top 4 to fall out of the top 4, so we're left with a top 20 - then everyone can have a disco.

Wouldnt be surprised if more came to light as well.

I cant recall the players name, but Chelsea signed a player in much the same circumstances from Reggina. A 16 year old who had a contract worth about £20k a year, the maximum you are allowed for a 16 year old under Italian Law. Chelsea quite literally stole him, offered him 10 times that, the lad didnt want to go but given that Regio is a pretty poor place to live financially, his Mum just packed his bags and sent him!!

United used the same legal loophole to poach Macceda from Lazio. In both cases the clubs could do nothing to prevent the players leaving due to their age.

Correct me if I've got the detail slightly wrong, but in Spain, players can't sign professional contracts until they're 18. In the UK, it's 17.

As such Prem club can steal a year on their Spanish counterparts...as Arsenal did to Barca with Fabregas.

I think its the same in Italy as well.

France, on the other hand, is different.

^^^

Guardian piece on it today.

What I like is that the Lens boss, as stated above, tells Chelsea what will happen if they do this.

I would expect every club who reckons an English club to have robbed them of a player will complain now and ask for the same. Big can of worms.

What is more likely to happen, if this is held up, is that european clubs will start making any player in their academys sign "pre-contract agreements" which seem to be legally binding documents, if not contracts.

Seems to be the loophole that will protect their players from English clubs poaching them.

... but I think these may be illegal under the laws of some other European countries. I'm fairly sure that's why Italy and Spain made a fuss but couldn't do *anything* about Fabregas, Pique, Macheda et al.

Yes.

Dont know about Spain, but in Italy its illegal for a 16 year old to sign a prfoessional contract or pre contract agreement. They are paid a maximum wage, something like £20k a year on a Scholarship type basis. Hence why they can do nothing to prevent their Academy players being "Stolen". I think Giusseppe Rossi is another player aquired in this way.

One of the reasons that these laws are in place is to protect young sportsmen's development. ie, too much too early could ruin their career.

But of course, when these players first appear in the 'Best League in the World' they are the next new progeny of the big 4. And fck everyone else.

For me, yet one more reason to hate the Premiership and everything that it fails to stand for.
