Poland 0 - 1 N. Ireland. Got in too late to see Lafferty's goal (38) but Paweł Brożek just missed a great, if tight opportunity and already there have been some desperate hoofs at goal. We don't want to go to Sooth Efrikay anyway, Poles aren't too good at intercontinental travel (Kapuściński aside, obviously).
Only real point of interest - Ebi Smolarek, still clubless after being released by Racing Santander, didn't start - I think that's the first time in over 4 years he hasn't started when fit.

[edit] - Martin Paterson is tearing Poland's defence apart.

Ends 1-1, once again a great atmosphere down the Gospoda, Poles fighting amongst themselves 8) TBF Poland huffed and puffed and probably just about deserved an equaliser without producing any top quality to win the game.

Maradonna looks a broken man

Did the same, and I agree it was quality.

Maradona isn't picking the best team available though.

Sky+ it and watched it this morning. It was a superb game, Argentina should have scored a few more. I've never seen Brazil defend that well. Dunga is crafting a really good team....the Argies could do with some of Dunga's defensive organisation. Those two young CBs looked totally lost everything Brazil came forward. The only problem with the game was Gary Birtles talking sh*t for the whole game.......

As good a chance as ever, at the moment, that we could have four home nations at the World Cup, would be fantastic.

England are as good as there.

Ireland look secure in the playoff place in their group - two home games left and they should get the win that they need against Montenegro.

Scotland need to avoid defeat against Holland to reach the play-offs themselves - or hope Macedonia get a result in Norway.

Northern Ireland the most perilous - they have Czech Rep (a) and Slovakia (h) to go. Poland and Slovenia can both go past them, but crucially they have to play each other, so a draw there would be perfect. That said, Northern Ireland could actually go top of their group next week by beating Slovakia at home.

Other stuff:

Portugal are in real trouble in Group 1 - they need to get past Hungary and Sweden to reach the playoffs, but the latter still have Malta and Albania to play in their last three. If they are to have any chance, they cannot afford to lose in Hungary this week.

Russia have Azerbaijan and Wales to play in Group 4, so look easy favourites to claim the best runners-up spot and automatic qualification (assuming Germany go on to win the group).

Its not pedantic.
Saying Ireland are a home nation is just like saying France are.

Best fans in the world, though. Or is that Scotland?
