Hunt : - "Don't blame Brendan"

by ZacNaloen » 21 Sep 2009 12:53

Striker Noel Hunt revealed that manager Brendan Rodgers gave the players a number of home truths after our 3-2 defeat at Peterborough on Saturday.

The Royals saw a 2-0 half time lead slip away, and Rodgers was left hugely disappointed with the team's second half performance at London Road.

Noel said, "The manager was gutted after the game and he laid down a few home truths, as he needed to.

"It's down to us on the pitch, he's doing everything he can and we're not carrying it out on the field. Individually and collectively we take the blame for our mistakes.

"We let him down in the second half. First half we did well, got some great balls in the box, fullbacks got forward and it just stopped in the second half. We didn't deal with the first ten minutes of the second half and we're gutted.

"We're gutted for the gaffer, he's been doing so well and the players should take the brunt of this, not him.

"We just didn't turn up second half. I'm stunned, it was like we left the game early. They put us under pressure and we didn't handle it. They got an early goal and we forgot everything we were taught.

"The time for talking now has finished, we owe ourselves a result. We need to learn quickly from this experience. We are all very, very disappointed, we need to look at it and make sure it never happens again. The manager will make sure of that."

"he's been doing so well?" :?: More rhetoric. A player isn't going to come out and state that the manager and his tactics are shite are they.

"we forgot everything we were taught" - isn't it the manager's job to MAKE sure they know EXACTLY what they're meant to be doing and if they do appear to be forgetting on the pitch, to REMIND them - tell them where they should be, who they should be marking??

I wouldn't be at all surprised if old Rodgers was bigging them all up at half time and that helped towards their downfall. A game is never won after 45 minutes.

If only life was that simple. That is the lament of every manager in the game ....

Read Rodger's post-match reacdtion, and you'll see he's just as disappointed in the team as we are. In fact, he's probably more so.
He knows football, he's been in it all his life. He will fix what's wrong and we'll move on.
Negativity doesn't do anything for anyone. Neither does positivity where it's not deserved - Rodgers' is a realist and knows when to praise and criticise his team.

Pay not attention to anything written or said by the players in the press.

Rodgers may be a bit more open, players just give soundbites though....

What exactly has Brendan done to you to deserve this endless vitriol. You even just make shit up now like what he said in the dressing room at half-time.

You're a bewildering angry little woman. Do you think Rodgers didn't speak to his players during the second half?

You're a charmless, bigoted pcnt but it's not all about you m8.

I'm not "making stuff up" I said I wouldn't be surprised if he said those things at half time.

That's my opinion on what Noel Hunt said. I don't care if I'm 100% wrong and 100% of people on here don't agree with me. It's my opinion and I'll say it if I want. Cheers then.

TBF to Noel, he does seem to give the impression of a player who actually cares.

Twitter update:

"Fucking gutted".

Good to hear it Noel, good to hear it.

Hating him for stuff you've decided he's said without any evidence to back it up is crazy.

I've also reported you (again) for your deliberately offensive and unnecessary cursing in your previous email.

I believe Noel. He's just one of those players who wears his heart on his sleeve - I'm not sure he's capable of spinning these things.

First to acknowledge the support after the game yet again, by the way.

Regardless of what Hunt says, Rodgers could and should have spotted our glaring weakness and done something to address it by shifting our formation and making a sensible subsitution.

He did none of this. Yes the players need to take some blame for being abject. But Rodgers needs to shoulder plenty, for failing so miserably with adapting his tactics. You don't just sit and hope the players will start playing properly again, or that the other team will decide to randomly stop attacking your weakness.

I like the little fella. I think he cares a lot. Some of his post match comments have also been spot on recently, he complained that he had hardly had a kick of the ball all game. To say that we have not had the best out of him so far this season would be an understatement.

On the football side of things I agree with pretty much everything he posts on here.

On AE I don't think we like each other, but I'm not certain on that one yet.

I have reported you before on more than one occasion but by complaints were deleted.

I'm more anti-hysteria than I am pro-Rodgers, I think. He may or may not come good, but anyone who's been watching football for any length of time will know that it needs a lot longer than 8 games to find this out.

That's reasonable - neither blind faith nor utter cynicism. Had we won on Saturday things would have looked a lot better.

After 8 Games, we would need to be playing appallingly and there would need to be dressing room anarchy to think about changing manager - which isn't where we are at the moment.

That said, I am starting to feel quite uncomfortable.

Sounded like the damage was done in the first 10 minutes of the restart - wasn't like there was 20 minutes of play and the inevitability of the goals going in - thrown away by the players in the first 10 mins.

Good job BR is a positive man - we'll need every ounce of it to turn around this stuttering start.

Have faith guys.
