Adie Williams in EPo

by Deathy » 25 Sep 2009 12:42

In today's Post. he has a column in it now, which is nice...

But two things:

1) They spell his name "Ady" and I'm sure it's Adie? Am I mistaken?
2) They say he spent for years here, racking up 350 appearances. Feck me he was busy.

It said 4 years at the Madejski, not in total.

As I said, crap journo. His memory prolly doesn't stretch back to Elm Park. It's no good saying 4 years at the Madejski and then quoting 350 apperances.

Not really sure what your problem is here.

1. It is Ady - http://www.soccerbase.com/players_detai ... yerid=8529

2. He played 4 season at the Madjeski when he rejoined us - and did make over 350 apps in all.

So what is actually wrong with the article.

Why comment of the years at the madejski? He played for the club before that, at elm park, so why not just sum up the entire period he spent here? Life didn't begin in that plastic blue fish bowl. How many years was he here in total?

Does it really matter. He re-joined the club for a second spell all at the new stadium and it is more relevant to now than the games he played at Elm Park - it's a totally pointless thing to get your knickers in a twist about.

He writes a column on Reading/The team every week in the Post. Doesn't that warrant posting in The Team?

To be fair the column is hardly interesting at all, just repeating what many others say, give time to BR, many of the new young players have promise, bla bla bla.

I actually agree with Jay here.

Obvioulsy it's factually correct, he did spend 4 years at the Madjeski (although if you're going to be picky about it I bet he didn't spend the whole 4 years at the ground!), but it's typical of the current set of local journo's that they kind of get it almost right, but mislead and misrepresent basic things like this at the same time.

It wasn't long ago that Fordham described Parkinson as a 'former Reading centre back.' Factually correct, he played centre back a couple of times, but it's not really what he's known for.

It's sloppy.

You get the impression that there's precious little in the way of sub-editing in the RP or Chronicle, at least where RFC columns are concerned. Some shockingly amateurish mistakes get in there all the time, as if the journo has licence to publish straight to the wider world without a second pair of eyes fact-, spell- and grammar-checking the work*. With the best will in the world, even some of the best journalists are going to end up looking shoddy when there's such a rush to get stuff out.

*If I'm mistaken, then...well, newspaper standards really have gone down the shitter.

From limited experiences, journalists these days are given more freedom to publish unsubbed. The biggest reason for this is that they just can't afford to have many journo's on the books, who can act as subs :( A sad state of affairs.

Even so I've always been annoyed with people who got their knickers in a twist over a slight mistake like that, if 99% of it's right (and the bit that's wrong doesn't really matter) then what's the problem?

Regional newspapers are in a state of crisis at the moment - falling advertising revenues and changes in the way people get their news means they're closing at a rate of knots.

Is it any wonder that there are fewer peopel working there these days and that those who are there have to multi-task?

The EP should have a column for a guest contributor each week, taken from Hobnob. I'd suggest Floyd goes first, then Focher.

So Adi Williams writes in the Reading Post about the team, and this gets moved to general football? :|

Anyway, a RP poll:

Win - hurrah! 34%

Lose - boo! 57%

Draw - mmm... 9%

Who the feck created that poll? "Boo" "hurrah"

Just for the record, in all his time at Reading he was never Ady. He was Adrian or Adie.
