rumours in the sunday papers about a bust-up with Mills, not even in the squad for Watford (disciplinary breach), and not showing impressive form when he has played, is this the end for our esteemed vice-captain?????

Hmmm.

I'd be happy to take Mills over Pearce if I had too. But under the circumstances (Ivar getting on, Cisse weak in the air and O'Dea a temp) I'd rather we had both.

I am skeptical.

Feel sorry for Pearce. He should never have been made vice-captain and in effect captain on the pitch for the first six weeks of the season. He simply was not ready for the role and its another Todgers mistake.
I'm sure he will come back but he is still learning his trade at this level and is not the finished article.

Big +1. I have no idea why Rodgers did such a thing. But then who else could he have chosen? Maybe Bryn? Should have been Harps but he got rid of him. Rosy would also have been an idea but oops got rid of him too.

I so hope we tw*t Preston. Need cheering up!

It madea lot of sense to have one of the old guard (Ivar) with one of the youngsters as his deputy. It's hardly a big job being 'vice captain', being captain involves next to nothing beyond calling heads or tails so being vice captain would hardly keep you awake at night.

Pearce also had a season captaining the reserves so will already have been seen in a position of some authority within the group of players.

He was a bit unlucky that Ivar was out for the start of the season and he ended up as captain on the pitch, but he's not a kid, he's not inexperienced and there is no real reason why he shouldn;t have been given the job.

He's not become a bad player over night and if it hadn;t been for Ivar coming back to fitness he's still be inthe team....

I think Harps was the obvious candidate but as Rodgers decided he was surplus to requirements it wasn't to be.
I would even have looked at Jay Tabb but he doesn't seem to be in Todgers plans either. Bizarre.

I just don't think he's a good player. He makes mistakes, is too slow etc etc.

Karacan is the best of the academy kids, closely followed by Siggi.

All players make mistakes.

Pace isn't such a big deal for a centre back.

Ivar has no pace, John Terry has no pace, Adi Williams had no pace....

We need a holding midfielder and a striker. But Todgers (nice I like it) didn't think of that. Would like to see Tabb back in there - maybe alongside Karacan. Still a 5 11 + midfielder would be the best solution.

But Ivar is 31, Terry was quicker once, Adie had great positioning.

I just think Pearce won't make the grade. I would love to be proved wrong but that's my gut feeling.

He's not a bad player but is still inexperienced at this level...how many Championship starts had he made prior to this season? Maybe 15? 20? Not many to be made captain for the first six weeks thats for sure. Besides Rodgers knew Ivar would be unfit at the start of the season so to give Pearce the captaincy was putting a lot of pressure on him. He should have been left to concentrate on his own game.

You'd be wrong.

Although what 'competitive sport' has to do with it I'm not sure.

Captains in rugby and cricket - key figures.

Captains in football - no big deal.

The players people consider good captains are no such thing, they are what they are and giving them an armband makes no difference. John Terry, Stuart Pearce, Bobby Moore would have played the game and done things exactly the same whether they were named captain or not. Tke the armband off them and they carry on doing the same thing. It's a token role in football, no standing in the rules, no decisions to make. You do need players who are good organisers, good talkers etc but they do not need to be captains.

I think Rodgers wanted a clean sweep and assert his authority so someone like Harps didn't fit into his plans as he is quite a character.Ivar is, I suspect, more low key and easier for Rodgers to handle.
