Big Ern Why restrict it to the Champions League?, they should just get rid of Scottish football full stop, a pointless waste of time.

Scottish Football = Dump

Ern, you've always been a bit dense. Why not get rid of Scotland altogether eh? I mean they've contributed nothing to football have they? Busby, Shankly, Dalglish, Ferguson, Stein. Not won a cup between them.

when was the last gr8 scottish player then :?: living in the past like the english :?:

scots only make good managers because they are all angry kants.

ps mark stein is english and you missed off dennis law m8

You're even denser than Ern. I realise that you're probably taking the piss but I left out Denis because he wasn't a manager. As for Mark Stein..well, I can't be arsed sonny.

Royalee 1. Your league is rubbish.
2. You have no money.
3. Your fans are morons as we saw in the UEFA Cup Final in 2008.
4. You don't see Belgian teams joining the Dutch League or vice-versa - you have nothing to add to our league.
5. As a travelling fan I'd rather have my head smashed in with a spade then travel to Glasgow on a Saturday.
6. We don't want Gordon Brown, take him back - you can have your own independence.
7. Religion is like a club for stupid people, I don't care if some third rate Polish goalkeeper made a religious gesture, piss off.
8. Here in England we don't want to see Rangers or Celtic on Sky Sports for Champions League games - sort this out Sky and let us watch Dinamo Bucharest V Sparta Prague, the standard of football would be higher.
9. Ally McCoist is a rubbish pundit, take him back.
10. Good day.

LOL. You're a complete pcunt who knows fcuk all about your own "supposed" club. I'm guessing you know even less about Scottish football.

I'm still of the belief that only the Top 2 clubs for the Major European leagues should get in.

Other leagues can't progress when the rich keep getting richer. Clubs like Steaua Bucharest and Red Star Belgrade were very serious contenders for the Champions League until the mid 90's and now they just keep selling thier best players to stay afloat.

Just read Steve Claridge's take on Scottish football on the beeb website:

Steve Claridge Hi Steve, my brother and I have been arguing for a long time now over which is stronger - The Championship or the Scottish Premier League. I would like your opinion on this, and maybe you could end our long-running debate!
Aaron H, Northern Ireland

The Championship, definitely, when it comes to strength in depth. I've known some terrible, terrible players who have gone from England to the SPL and done very well.

If you take Rangers and Celtic out, and maybe one or two out of Hearts, Hibernian and Aberdeen, then the rest of the SPL is probably League One level.

Let's be honest, Rangers and Celtic are falling further and further behind the Premier League because of the difference in their finances. I'd like to see those two clubs come into the English pyramid. I'd usually have said no but I just think now they are completely marooned and there is just nothing left for them in Scotland now.

If you took them out then I know it's going to leave a bit of a black hole but you are also going to make the SPL competitive. All of a sudden Hearts can win the league, when they haven't got a hope at the moment.

But Scottish football needs a shot in the arm anyway. Rangers and Celtic get crowds of more than 50,000 but it is becoming more and more unlikely for them to qualify for the Champions League group stages and the consequences of that is that there are small Premier League clubs which have more financial clout.

I understand that probably a lot of people in Scotland will say 'we need them for our league' but for purely selfish reasons they should come into the English system.

They are slowly dying right now and getting the life strangled out of them, which isn't good for Scottish football either.

I'd like to put them straight into the Premier League but you would have to stick them in the Championship because people would not be happy seeing other teams drop out of the top flight to make room.

It's also been talked about making them work their way up from League Two, and they would take that route, make no mistake, if you offered them that now. At the moment they are just running into a brick wall and there is nowhere to go, there is nothing for them.

It has never been as a bad as this before. Don't forget there was a time when there was more money in Scotland - around 20 years ago when Rangers were signing lots of top English players. Now they are paupers.

So he wants to put them in the Championship because people would not be happy seeing other teams drop out of the top flight?!? And what does he suggest we do with the extra two teams in the Championship?!?

Also

"Rangers and Celtic get crowds of more than 50,000 but it is becoming more and more unlikely for them to qualify for the Champions League group stages..."

Apart from last season then? And if Celtic's squad from last season managed it, there's no reason why it should be beyond Rangers current squad.

Rangers are already in the group stages, aren't they? It was Celtic who failed this season to get this far.

Celtic and Rangers put up the league pyramid that quick would be a bigger joke to English football than Wimbledon/MK Dons move.

Depends on what their TV money is like and what wages they're paying to their players...

Why should they be allowed straight into League Two? If they want to join the English pyramid they can start in the North West Counties League Division One playing Stone Dominoes, Daisy Hill and Wigan Robin Park.

I'd agree with that. Although, I'm wondering where would a Welsh team start if they wanted to enter the English leagues?

Could have it as a 26 team division one season with promotion/relegation to spread it out so that you end up with 2 teams dropping out of the League. I wouldn't want it to happen and nor will it for a number of reasons previously discusses.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 297988.stm

Rangers chief executive Martin Bain believes the Ibrox club will have left the Scottish Premier League behind in the next 10 years.

And Bain suggested that a new European set-up might be the likely escape route for Rangers and Glasgow rivals Celtic.

When asked by BBC Sport if he thought Rangers would be playing elsewhere within a decade, Bain replied: "I do.

"There are a number of like-minded clubs who are currently hamstrung by the environment they are in."

An Atlantic League involving clubs from outside the five major European leagues; England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France, has been discussed at length before.

And Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell, speaking to the BBC on Wednesday, was cool on the idea being investigated again, preferring to court a move to England.

However, Bain is determined to explore every possibility when it comes to increasing Rangers' stature and spending power.

"There are a number of big clubs playing in smaller leagues," he added. "And I think there will be a wind of change.

"I understand all the cross-border aspects but there are a number of like-minded clubs, who are currently hamstrung by the environment they are in.

"As that groundswell grows, I think Uefa will take note and maybe that will lead to other things.

"We have to be invited to a party. So we need to maintain our club and its infrastructure in order that at the time to be invited, we are there or thereabouts, then that's an objective."

Bain spoke of his frustration at seeing the lowest placed club in the English top flight earning almost 15 times what the top club in Scotland can garner through sponsorship and media rights.

And he believes the Old Firm are an attractive proposition for broadcasters.

MY SPORT: DEBATE
Give your reaction to Bain's comments
"What the media companies want is the live spectacle and full houses," he added. "Celtic and Rangers have got that in abundance with our fan bases.

"We are a huge club commercially. Our fans are the lifeblood.

"If you couple that with the additional media revenue that might come with a new opportunity, we certainly would be a club to be reckoned with in any league in the world."

With Lawwell saying Celtic would consider any route that could lead to the English Premier League, manager Tony Mowbray said the issue was being spoken about within football circles.

"It's something our club would be interested in listening to of course," he told BBC Sport. "Where do I think we are in a football context having had experience of the English Premier League?

"Glasgow Celtic, and indeed our city rivals would fit into the Premier League pretty well."

fcuk off! we created the premier league and made it work, now just because its been succesful the jealous scots are moaning again.
why don't you just invest some money and improve your own shyte game instead of crying all the time about wanting to jump ship.

the old firms "great" support would soon get shown up when they start getting beat every week and don't win any titles and tin pot cups anymore. so you are better off staying where you are anyway.
