Royal Rother I am informed (quite probably unreliably) that some of Farnborough's players are on £800 per week and that they are a financial disaster waiting to happen.

Without getting out of 2nd gear they made Windsor & Eton's honest amateurs look pretty inferior in the FA Cup a couple of weeks back. Robinson at the back (ex-Arsenal youngster) looked (and sounded - he was very vocal!) particularly classy.

To be honest Rother you could say every club that is spending money at any level is a 'disaster waiting to happen'. Farnborough are owned by their supporters aren' they? So no idea where they are getting the cash from. What they also get is a home crowd double of what Maidenhead get every week.

They are spending for that level, school m8 of mine has gone there from Didcot Town in the summer (scored last night) they more than doubled his wages.

Farnborough will probably get promotion this season, get that stand done and they'll have a cracking non league stadium capable of hosting BSP football definitely and possibly League 2, no worse than Macclesfield's or Accrington's ground.

I tend to share the same suspicions as Rother, but Farnborough has hosted Conference football for many years in the past and there is a decent fan base to tap in to; some league games this season have attracted 4 figure crowds. The ground is very impressive and the set up there is geared to success higher up the pyramid, good luck to them.

Their ground is also owned by the local council, which is always a great asset for small clubs.

I saw Tom Jones play for Farnborough Town. My memories of Cherrywood Rd are of the dug outs being opposite the main stand and some bloke from Tiverton stood behind one of the goals holding a large pumpkin on top of his head.

The above makes the stand at Stag Meadow (below) look like the Holt End!!

Not too dissimilar to what used to exist at Wokingham Town's ground.

Between them and Truro for the title. Think Farnborough will do it though as they have more experience at that level. Truro will be a good bet to win the play offs.

... sorry didn't get round to doin' a preview - I'm sure no-one missed it! :P

Anywhose - here's the results from yesterday:-

FA CUP 3rd Qualifying Rnd
Woking 2-0 Maidstone
Heybridge Swifts 0-0 Farnboro - replay Wed eve 19:45 @ Cherrywood Rd
Tooting & M 3-2 Sluff

..other noteworthy Cup scores...

Truro 1-1 Mangotsfield
- reportedly 'fluke' equalizer for Truro in 2nd min injury time
Paulton Rovers 1-0 Newport County -
goal in the 4th min puts previously unbeaten Exiles out to a side two levels below them in the Pyramid - I went to this one - was approaching turnstile when homeside scored :( - combination of iffy traffic in Brizzle - difficulty parking and dodgy signs in Village and outside ground - plus my 'firstborn' decided he needed to go to the loo before the game started
Crowd a dissappointing (and mostly dissappointed) 700 odd. Thought a lot more Welshmen would have taken the short trip over the bridge - the H/T 'Away Supporters' bar was a very desolate place - and even my Exiles mate whom we took with us - didn't feel like a pint !

Aylesbury 4-3 Chesham - lowest ranked club - certainly in the south - overcome nr neighbours - I think they were 4-1 up at one stage.

League Games
CONF South
Weymuff 0-5 Maidenhead :P 9 goals in last two games for the Magpies

SOUTH Prem
Diddy 2-1 Hemel
Tiverton 0-5 Bashley - away side go Top as Boro and Truro playing in the Cup.
Swindon Supermarine 1-7 Brackley - go 3rd above Truro
SOUTHERN One
Midland

Sudbury 2-3 Marlow
Stourport 5-4 Aylesbury Utd - Ducks still no points
Burnham 1-0 Woodford Utd
South-West
Cinderford 2-4 Hungerford
Thatcham 3-1 Uxbridge
Royalists 2-1 Taunton
Robins fans skip this bit :?
North Leigh 8 - 0 Bracknell Town

Hellenic Prem
Reading Town - w/o a game: Bicester Town couldn't raise a team - may be on the brink of folding - due to play @ Binfield tomorrow night - will be interesting to see if they manage to get an XI for that one.
Flackwell 4-1 Binfield
Hook Norton 1-6 Ascot
... and another 'shock' for the Blanket Boys
Witney 1-2 Wantage

One-East
Finch 0-2 Thame
Newbury 2-2 Henley
Prestwood 1-3 Wokkers
Woodley Town 3-2 Farnboro Res. - crowd of nearly 80 - not bad.

Combined Counties One
CB Hounslow 1-1 Eversley

Wessex One
Aldermaston 1-6 Stockbridge
Fleet Spurs 2-4 Fawley
Hamble 3-1 Farnborough North End
Verwood 1-0 Tadley

... finally in the Wessex Premier Poole Town lost their 100% record with a home defeat by Wimborne on Tuesday and only drew yesterday @ Newport [IOW]
I think their first league defeat in 08/09 happened in the final week of the season.

I assume the 4th qualifying round isn't regionalised? If so, you could have one hell of a trip on your hands!!

Teams of "note" still in the hat for the next round:

FC United of Manchester (3rd round replay v Stalybridge to come)
Hampton and Richmond (3rd round replay v Aveley to come)
Bromley
Oxford City
Aylesbury (as mentioned below)
Ashford Town (Middx) - nice local derby for the Staines massive.

I read somewhere that, they were going back to Yeading FC. I have no idea where I read it, but it might be in this thread somewhere!

Went to Oxford on Saturday. Refreshingly, even though they won 5-0, they were shit. Officials were inept and bizarre in equal portions.

The oxford following literrally came straight out of a freak show - it was quite frightening.
