The Knitting Circle quoting the Beeb An Atlantic League involving clubs from outside the five major European leagues; England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France, has been discussed at length before.

Surely France is not a major league?

i wouldn't say major but it has gotta be the 5th biggest league in europe? although the dutch league may have something to say about that

I think you are nervous the old firm would double the fans of smaller clubs like tottenham, chelsea, everton, aston villa, etc

Minimum of 10k away fans fans every match we went too.

I think a lot of people are making their assumptions on whether Rangers or Celtic would survive in the Premiership NOW with their squads as they are NOW. If these two massive clubs were to join the premiership next year, they would invest heavily in their squads in order to compete and could easily attract some of the best talent in the world to play for them, especially if they could now offer premiership football.

Take this scenario: Celtic and Glasgow finish first and second in the SPL. Thus qualifying for Champions league football. Next season they are elected to join the Premiership. This would increase their revenue greatly due to Sky Sports money etc and increase their already strong global brands so they would be able to offer competitve wages consistently.

As a top player, who would you rather sign and play for? Celtic or Rangers? Or some also ran premiership team like Everton, Blackburn or Bolton?

I would imagine it would only take 2 or 3 seasons for both of these teams to adjust to premiership life and would soon compete with the Big 4.

Royalee 1. Your league is rubbish.
2. You have no money.
3. Your fans are morons as we saw in the UEFA Cup Final in 2008.
4. You don't see Belgian teams joining the Dutch League or vice-versa - you have nothing to add to our league.
5. As a travelling fan I'd rather have my head smashed in with a spade then travel to Glasgow on a Saturday.
6. We don't want Gordon Brown, take him back - you can have your own independence.
7. Religion is like a club for stupid people, I don't care if some third rate Polish goalkeeper made a religious gesture, piss off.
8. Here in England we don't want to see Rangers or Celtic on Sky Sports for Champions League games - sort this out Sky and let us watch Dinamo Bucharest V Sparta Prague, the standard of football would be higher.
9. Ally McCoist is a rubbish pundit, take him back.
10. Good day.

Because in Scotland there is the scope for them to do that as most grounds have the spare seats to fit them in given the average crowds. Simply wouldn't happen if they were in the PL - which they never will be.

To the poster known as "Wide and Wonderful" (that makes you sound like you are fat, BTW), I don't agree with you. I think that if they were to be in the Premiership, they would just be another also-ran and what's more, they'd lose their place in the Champions League. That means they wouldn't have much more money than any other so-called also rans.

By the way, I think I read in the BBC gossip that Mark McGhee said that Aberdeen had just as much right as Celtic and Rangers to be in the English league.

Are they really desperate to leave their league!!

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. How many years ago was that? How many Scottish teams other than Celtic and Rangers have reached a European final in the last 20 years?

In recent years, Middlesbrough has reached one. Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool all have been in a final. That's 5, compared to your 2.

UEFA rate it as the 5th, just swapped places with Germany.

Every season, they work out a list (from performances in Europe on a rolling average) so that the positions for the next-but-one seasons European competitions can be worked out.

Russia and Ukraine are ahead of the Dutch, btw, then its Romania and Portugal.
